Should McCain Pick Huckabee as his VP?

There's been a lot of speculation in the last few days that Mike Huckabee was a leading candidate to be John McCain's VP choice. In light of the many arguments both for and against him, do you think Mike Huckabee is the best candidate for McCain to choose?

We'd love to hear your two cents... ;)

I've said it here often: I

I've said it here often: I think John McCain needs to pick WAY OUTSIDE THE BOX. He is now free to do so, now that Bob Barr is running as a "Libertarian." My picks would be: Mike Bloomberg, Joe Lieberman, or a Hillary Democrat if they would accept: Ed Rendell, Ted Strickland, Jim Webb, John Corzine.

Within the box I like Tom Ridge. Other than he, Mike Huckabee is by far the best pick of the "Usual Suspects."

Yes, withou a doubt

McCain was not my first pick for President and neither was Huckabee. But, McCain is and I think Huck is the right pick for VP. McCain has to win the South and he has to gain the trust of social conservatives. Huck brings both of those to the table. The media does love him too. He is a very likable person. If I had my way it would not be my pick for the 1 and 2 spot (McCain/Huckabee)but I must say it sure sounds like a winning ticket this fall. Go for it Johnny!!

Huckabee is the best choice!

In this economy, McCain needs someone who can relate well with voters; Huckabee does an incredible job of speaking directly to the middle class about kitchen table issues. He also has practical solutions for problems confronting the average American. His support of the flat tax is very popular as well. He can help shore up the south and social conservatives.

The "Flat" Tax Is Impossible To Implement

In the following video clip from the Wall Street Journal's segment on FOX News they inform us that not only is the "Fair" tax impossible to implement but, it also has many unintentional negatives which is to be expected from a plan which was developed exclusively by economists;

Flat vs. Fair Tax Plans Which is better? ( When page opens click on the words “Flat v. Fair” and the video clip will start. )
http://www.foxnews.com/video2/launchPage.html?120907/120907_jer_taxes&Fl...

Flat tax is the best way to tax

because everyone will pay, not just the lawabiding citizens. With much study and expertise, the top economists in the country designed the Fair Tax. Most objective experts think it is the best plan and hope for our horribly unfair tax system.

I Apologize For Not Capitalizing The Word "Impossible" For You

Perhaps, had you actually watched the video clip of the experts explaining this fact to you, you would not have stamped your feet in denial by demanding the unobtainable once more.

There are also other dire consequences in the "Fair" tax which mere economists don't think about when brainstorming all by themselves as they apparently have no concern or knowledge of enforcement.

A black market would spring up the same day by selling new products as "used" to avoid the tax. Do you understand the unavoidable and devastating effect this would have to collecting the tax??

I don't know how much easier or clearer I can relay this information to you...do you??

If you do not think we have a black market now,

on many items then you may need some new specks. I join with an increasing number of legislators in supporting the Fair Tax Act (HR 25/S 1025) because it will rid this country of the bureacracy that inhibits our own growth and prevents big business from creating the jobs we so desperately need now.

So, We Should Replace One Dysfuntion With Another Bigger One

apart from the fact that the "Fair" tax is IMPOSSIBLE to implement due to the requirement of repealing the 16th Amendment. Where we would have new, different and cost prohibitive problems in collection that would almost certainly demand infringing our privacy and other rights to successfully enforce...No flippin' thank you and when others hear about that unspoken part of the "Fair" tax you might as well start running for cover right now.

Additionally, if we're having difficulty collecting income taxes from illegal aliens on top of the $340 Billion dollars we pay per year in their full support with the added expense of raising our healthcare costs by using emergency rooms as their primary care AND inability to pay for those same services which has closed dozens of hospitals doors, I strongly suggest the states continue cracking down on subversive employers and enforce our immigration laws through attrition with a closed and secure as possible border.
In other words, if the situation doesn't already demand our long overdue response, which it certainly does, then the added pressure of lost revenue might just persuade our elected officials to correct the problem they've intentionally ignored for the past TWO decades so they might be able to pay for those pet pork projects they love so dearly in justifying their re-election bids.

We can wisely and cautiously change our current system incrementally with Fred Thompson's optional "Flat" tax plan which does not require a Constitutional upheaval in being immediately implementable.

The "Flat" tax greatly lowers everyones tax burden which has historically created the primary condition of the highest number of employment opportunites...AND they can go back to the drawing board on the "Fair" tax.

Please, point to anything at all which you think is incorrect OR you need to know more about.

Repeal 16th Amendment!

Why do you think it would be "impossible" to repeal the 16th Amendment? The only people that like the IRS are lobbyist and tax preparers/advisers. The Fair Tax would stop penalizing productivity and bring money and jobs back to America. Either the Flat Tax or the Fair Tax would be better than the current tax system but don't say repealing the 16th Amendment is impossible. No one in their right mind would want to keep it.

Winghunter

LOL - Sorry I posted my reply at the top portion of this forum.

Running Mate

We could do worse than Huckabee. But we can do better. I'm for J. C. Watts. Young, dynamic, a true racial healer with strong legislative experience. Admittedly, he has no executive experience, but isn't that what the vice-presidency is for--training? Obama is charisma without substance. Watts provides that substance. And of course, he's conservative--a trait McCain lacks despite what we're trying to pawn off on the American people. If McCain wants to hold onto the conservative base, he needs a conservative running mate, not a populist.

The Huckster's Record Is Long, Revealing and Frightening

While the realization was difficult to accept at first, the mountain of evidence simply piled up far too high for any ludicrous attempt at denial;

Mike "The Huckster" Huckabee

Mike Huckabee's Skeleton Closet
http://www.realchange.org/huckabee.htm

No to Huckabee!

Huckabee is too much of a socialist for me. There are others out there who would much better candidates.

Winghunter, I really do not

know who you support. Typically, you just crash into a blog trashing Huckabee or Romney and run! I suppose you hope to add numbers to your personal blogs. This is about a REAL election with big consequences - neither Huckabee or Romney deserve the lies you spread about them.

By ALL Means Texan1

Now that I see you would like to cry on the messenger's shoulder while you try to kill him, what would you like to discuss in what you laughably offer as "lies"??...I have the truth if you have the time.

For the first of your aspersions, I was invited to comment as I've been involved with this "REAL election with big consequences" for well over a year and have forgotten more about this election than you'll ever pretend to know.

Secondly, if the information was not provided for on the internet which I felt important enough to list to be available to the entire citizenry then I created it to help people like you become capable for their own governance...obviously, they're not working as they should due to a severe lack of effort and a spreading epidemic of denial.

What else may I help you with?

Your arrogant tone speaks

volumes, but at least you have not just trashed and ran as you usually do.
I think it is interesting that you evaded the question - "Who do you support?" and that you use Huckabee and Romney's critics and rivals as your primary sources to edify your own self-serving blogsphere.

Additionally, your haughty assertion that "you have forgotten more about this election than you'll (meaning me) ever pretend to know" serves no purpose. When one has to toot their own horn and brag about their own credientials, weakness is unveiled. Additionally, you do not know me and have no idea what my creditials are.
If it is true that you have been "invited" to contribute to this forum, I hope you will be civil and have some evidence of productivity in your comments.

You Mistake Rightful Indignation For Arrogance...

...but, if you had chosen not to personally insult me and my integrity my "tone" would have been entirely different...do you understand the concept of 'reasonable' and how it works now?? "Civil" out gets "civil" in return. Amazing, right?

Second, I didn't "trash" anyone. If you view someone's past and records as serious and unacceptable enough to refer to it as "trash" that's the person who created his own bed to sleep in but, not the poor schmuck who merely passed the information on. Reality may be difficult to live within sometimes, however, the alternative, if not embarrassing and humiliating, is quite insane.

Third, I didn't "evade" the question of who I support as it is immaterial. I "support" We, The People to be capable. You see, I have this silly idea that Americans are still mature, principled and valued ( and sane ) enough to handle the truth of our situation and then actually be able to work towards improving it when they know what's wrong...yeah, I know, I'm an incurable optimist. ( But, don't tell anyone. )

For your next...rant I'm going to need your assistance; "...and that you use Huckabee and Romney's critics and rivals as your primary sources to edify your own self-serving blogsphere."

Here, are you actually suggesting I should have tried to locate and provide only The Hucksters and Willards allies as my "primary sources"?? Do they have nice flowers in the asylum you've been 'visiting'?? AND what in the world does "to edify your own self-serving blogsphere" mean??

As anyone can plainly see, I accept no advertising nor do I track traffic on any of the free blogs that I've created to carry the vast amount of information in making it easier for Americans without the time I have to dig for the truth...Of course, I didn't allow for those in denial. I'll work on something to address that.

NEXT, the "purpose" of my correct claim of knowing what I'm talking about serves the point I needed to make against your pitiful whining about what you clearly don't know while you insulted me and I'm STILL waiting for you to produce the "lies" you keep complaining about.

Nearly finally, if I would have known you had relevant credentials of any notable worth my instruction would have taken on an entirely different tone of admonishment. I've diplomatically chewed out many professional "pundits" with the facts and some of them I speak to regularly now because they, if begrudgingly, were honest enough to look at what I was saying was correct.

FINALLY, when you can muster up the gumption to pose a question that requires evidence above and beyond what I've already given you so that I may stop holding your hand to get back to researching and collecting, I'ld sure as hell appreciate it.

I just spent a lot of time checking out Winghunter's blogs.

That was a complete waste of my time. His sources are pathetic. The blogs are just a bunch of rehashed info that was cleared up a long time ago, for those willing to research the issues. They're also filled with petty complaints such as worrying about Huckabee cooking squirrels in a popcorn popper or believing in Adam and Eve.

Personally, I've eaten lots of squirrel in my time - not too bad. Taste like chicken! And I firmly believe in Adam and Eve and I don't see where Winghunter has given any better explanation for how all of creation got here to begin with.

In other words, this guy is just really full of crap, so I'd like to let you know, so that you don't have to waste your time on his blogs, as I did. They're really quite pathetic.

NOW, you boys have gone too damn far.

Mike ‘The Huckster’ Huckabee

The Huckster has no formal education nor experience suitable to prepare him for the presidency. According to one of his own aides his method of governance was merely putting out fires with no planning or forward thinking at all. The Arkansas republican leadership have quite alot to say about the Huckster, so much so, that two of them went to Iowa to warn the voters there about this con artist.

The Huckster's favorite confidence slogan, "The other candidates come to you but, I come from you." was well recieved by the uninformed and unwary but, as we all know every family has its black sheep and he is without question ours. He's like the cousin who never grasped the concept of right from wrong yet, went far out of his way to practice how to influence others where the following proof of this is undeniable;

Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR):

Judicial Watch Announces List of Washington’s “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” for 2007 ( No. 6 is The Huckster )
Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record. According to The Associated Press: “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints with 5 convictions and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.” And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations? Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down. http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list-washington-s-...

“It seems to have been reserved to the people of this country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force.
If there be any truth in the remark, the crisis at which we are arrived may with propriety be regarded as the era in which that decision is to be made; and a wrong election of the part we shall act may, in this view, deserve to be considered as the general misfortune of mankind.” — Alexander Hamilton (Federalist No. 1, 27 October 1787) Reference: Hamilton, Federalist No. 1.

You do seem arrogant to me -

I did not intend to insult you, merely call your consistent and traditional "trash and run" tactics. Obviously, you have a gift for writing, but you have been mean-spirited (in all instances I have seen you post) and determined to demean respectable candidates and their supporters. As far as the lies go, most of the material in your blogs are gross distortions of actual facts to put Gov. Huckabee and Gov. Romney in the most negative light possible. In light of Gov. Huckabee's high approval ratings in AR, the people who know him best see him differently. Apparently, you want to pull the lever for "we, the people" in November. Gov. Huckabee is the closest candidate to that, and he will not be on the ballot unless McCain chooses him as his running mate. Which brings us back to the purpose of this discussion - Mike Huckabee as VP. He brings a great variety of assets to the ticket, including authenticity on the issues and likeability. McCain desperately needs someone who has name recognition and can take the Republican mantel and run with it - Huckabee, the great communicator, can do that and the McCain/Huckabee team is the best hope for a Republican win in November.

OK, For The Last Time...

...Piss People Off And They May Kick You Back. With me it's not a bet, it's a certainty as sure as the sun rises in the morning.

First, in looking back at all this I see that somehow I managed to write "Flat" tax when I meant to write "Fair" tax. I have no idea how this occurred since I've written it so many times but, for this I deeply apologize for confusing the situation. If you look back I'm sure you'll see what happened. The "Fair" tax is impossible, the "Flat" tax is the way to go, just as the video clip describes in detail.

Ok, now to your current post;

I've gone out of my way to explain "trash" so, I don't know what else to say if you insist on using the aspersion and just as there is no crying in baseball, there is no 'running' on the internet...if you don't reload the page for 10 minutes just to see if someone is waiting at their website and you've got 100 more links of information and articles to read you can't stick around to watch the pixels of your monitor change shape. Right? right.

And thanks for the compliment and I mean that but, you receive from me exactly what you give. If I happen to have seen the same insult more than say, 50 times, chances are the level of response might very well go up a notch. Again, I don't sling what hasn't been slung and unlike far too many folks I've seen, I'll never say anything in here I wouldn't say an inch from anyone's nose.

In passing on information which I have checked out personally, and after twenty years of investigation work I'm not too bad at it, anything I say is directly backed up by the facts that I can, do and will provide at anytime in a minute's notice. Therefore, if they are 'demeaning' it is fact and that is the fault of the candidate for the misappropriation of funds, the abuse of power, the pandering or what have you but, it is their burden for committing the act and not the guy that informs you that you need to rethink your position if you are honest and sincere about whom you support and why.

I have run across far too many 'supporters' which are dishonest, delusional or just in denial of who the candidate truly is from the direct opposite of what they say. I'm used to people lying to my face when I ask them what happened but, I figure it out sooner or later regardless of what they tell me.

You say, "As far as the lies go, most of the material in your blogs are gross distortions of actual facts to put Gov. Huckabee and Gov. Romney in the most negative light possible."

Both blogs on the Huckster are not mine, only one of them is but, I have one on almost all the candidates. I have now posted which is mine here in response to the pipsqueak spouting off his brand of spin but, that was only to shut his mouth and show people that he was being dishonest in trying to mitigate the vast amount of serious charges, eyewitness testimony and information compiled by the experts plus firsthand accounts against the Huckster ( as well as Willard on his own ) and his ridiculous attempts to sidestep or confuse people who know better. They call it damage control, I call it lying through their teeth.
Now, you've come close but, you still have not asked for a specific accusation of any "lie" and I assure you, you will never find one where the truth holds only one shade of bright light that can't be hidden from. Wherein, in case you haven't noticed I'm not a politically correct kinda' guy for time is too short and as you have said our presidency and country are far too important to screw around with.

You then offer, "In light of Gov. Huckabee's high approval ratings in AR.."

I suggest that's entirely dependent upon who you ask, the folks who knew what was going on or those who merely listened to soundbites of his excuses;

I'm sure you'll observe these were written by the people who have the most to lose in testifying against the Huckster but, they were so incensed about what they know they felt compelled to speak up...that's powerful testimony on anyone's scale.

Now, in viewing the last of what you offer I can readily see you have not researched the material handed to you and unless you're going to provide what you accused me of, I have my country to save and need to carry on.

Huckabee as VP: great choice

Huckabee on the ticket is just what McCain needs. Huckabee has 10 1/2 years of executive experience managing the state of Arkansas. He still has an approval rating of 65% from the citizens of Arkansas. He got 48% of the black vote in Arkansas. Huckabee did a lot for the environment and natural resources in Arkansas. He is pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Israel. He developed a nine point immigration plan, while still being compassionate to those illegal immigrants who had been raided by ICE and their children/infants were left with no one to care for them. He speaks for all Americans who are having trouble with kitchen table issues and has common sense solutions for the economic problems we face. He left Arkansas with a budget surplus. He drew in the youth vote during the primaries.

Huckabee would make a great VP and I am hoping that McCain asks him to be on the ticket.

V.P.

Sorry but Huck would actually make the ticket less appealing to me. I could handle Romney because of his economic knowledge, plus Mitt would help re-unify conservatives with the ticket. But how exactly would Huck help? Possibly as the comic releif side kick? Not my Dream ticket....

A Religous Socialist?

John is left enough as it is.

A guy like Santorum who hasn't lost an election would be good.

What we need is

1. A war fighter
2. A guy who believes in Liberty (the Ronald Reagan wing)
3. Who is acceptable or better to social conservatives

I don't know who that would be.

And how about doing something about the Drug War? Any system that makes it easier for kids to get drugs than beer is not working. Why not tell the truth? Or is the amount of straight talk limited?

And please - we are headed into a 30 year cold era according to solar scientists. Tell you what though. When we have a month of sun spots every day address global warming. (right now we are getting one weak spot every month or two) In the mean time doing nothing is the safest. Just in case we might do the wrong thing. BTW we should do nothing if India and China are not included. Why kill our manufacturing base?

Governor Huckabee is the One!!!

Step back and look. Who is it that would best represent our party and it's core values ? Governor Mike Huckabee has been vetted of all the trash thrown at him by the former Clinton Dynasty and the Romney flack.

Governor Huckabee has a grassroots movement of volunteers, not bought and paid for. He has the oration strength second to none. His knowledge of foreign affairs is astounding. The greatest of all is his character being that of the founding Fathers as it comes to the Federal Government. His experience as an Executive of a State for 10.5 years has taught him much to include what the federal government is failing at and what needs fixing. Mike will be a true asset to John in both the campaign and in the Presidency.

Novak eyes Huckabee as VP

Bob Novak has written another article regarding McCain's decision for VP. This time he focuses on Huckabee

Back in March he focused on Portman

Thanks, Nelsa

It seems like I have read a portion of this article previously somewhere else. Have you?

Tex-You're Weclome

Some of it does sound familiar. Refresh my memory.Did you post something on it?

The point of my comment and the links to the stories was that everyone seems to have a choice for VP and that their choice changes like the direction of the wind.

I have leaned toward Romney but have not made up my mind. It's a very complicated decision based on many many variables.

An obviously "wrong choice" could sink a campaign. An innocuous choice is safe because it removes the negatives. That's why VP's are usually boring. Hopefully this will be the year of shocking choices on both sides producing an extrordinary General election.

It seems like I read something like this

previously in an Arkansas newspaper. I have not posted anything yet; I'm going to try and check this out first. Please let me know if you remember something on this.
You are right - it is very complicated and a wrong choice will send a Democrat to the White House.
I can see the advantages of Romney in some election years, but this year, the stage is set for Huckabee or someone similar. Whoeever he/she is must be able to relate well to the middle class voter, pick up the south (which is becoming striped with blue) and social conservatives (many of whom claim they will sit it out.) Although I have been a staunch Huckabee supporter and my vision is clouded in that regard, I really believe that he is the best VP for McCain this year. I know he does have disadvantages, and if McCain does choose someone else, I feel he needs to choose a southerner who is socially conservative and can speak directly and genuinely to the American electorate.

Fair Tax

Certainly, the sixteenth amendment must be repealed. If support for the Fair Tax continues to increase, that can be done.
Illegal immigration is a problem and desperately needs to be addressed. Currently, millions of illegals workers are payed off the books and are not taxed, robbing our government of close to $1 trillion. To force illegals to pay taxes, the Fair Tax is an incredible weapon. According to Fair Tax.org - "More than 80% of all tax returns are eliminated under the FairTax--every individual filing. What remains are retail outlets collecting the FairTax. Of these, 80 percent of all retail sales now occur at large retail chains like Wal-Mart. The point is oversight will still reside under the Treasury Department but the government's responsibility will be over a far smaller "universe" of tax collection points making compliance oversight far less costly and far more effective than the current system which costs $265 billion a year in compliance costs and still comes up $350 billion a year short of what is owed." Everyone must buy something, including other underground occupations, and the Fair Tax makes them pay when they do.
Also, the U.S. continues to fall behind other developed nations because of our corporate tax structure, having higher corporate taxes than any other developed nation except Japan. No wonder jobs are leaving the country. The Fair Tax can correct this problem.
Now I see that you favor the Flat Tax, and their are positives and negatives with that plan as well; however, I would favor the Flat Tax above our current income tax plan.

Right, Found Your Reply Down Here

"Certainly, the sixteenth amendment must be repealed."

Right, I'll give you our own recent history on this since you don't like the word 'impossible'...it's a perfectly good word with strong meaning but, if you don't like it I'm here to help.

Not many years ago we enjoyed the largest majority in Congress we've ever had where we attempted a pro-life amendment and still fell far short of the supermajority votes required to pass it. Therefore, if we couldn't accomplish that back then, then we know without any reasonable doubt that no Constitutional Amendment can be passed or repealed in our near or foreseeable future. To think otherwise is the definition of 'pipedream'. Speaking of pipedreams, The Huckster offered, or rather publicly demanded on his platform of no less than four different Amendments to pass and/or the 16th to repeal in which he had previously correctly stood instead with Federalism as the correct way to deal with the judicial activism...that's pandering for votes...that's blatant dishonesty but, he didn't stop there. The Huckster had the unmitigated gall to publicly impugn the same rightful position of Federalism against Fred Thompson or anyone else who also knew what they were talking about which he had just in the last year also had the exact same position;

From Federalism To Pro-Life Amendment In The Wink of A Vote

THIS knowledge separates the informed from the emotionally duped...the capable for their own governance from the con artist's 'Marks'.

My God, I hope I'm reaching somebody here as the evidence and lessons we've learned from our own past just doesn't get any better or clearer than this.

Illegal Immigration
I know I've repeated explanations before but, I'll just pull down the one on from the previous post so you might understand it after you now know our history;
"...I strongly suggest the states continue cracking down on subversive employers and enforce our immigration laws through attrition with a closed and secure as possible border.
In other words, if the situation doesn't already demand our long overdue response, which it certainly does, then the added pressure of lost revenue might just persuade our elected officials to correct the problem they've intentionally ignored for the past TWO decades so they might be able to pay for those pet pork projects they love so dearly in justifying their re-election bids." Added: OVER the potential votes they might get from the amnesty of illegal aliens.

We all now know this can't be done with the "Fair" tax which wouldn't save our sovereignty or our healthcare costs which makes the solution wrong to pursue for those critical reasons alone anyway.

Luckily for us McCain adopted Fred's optional Flat tax plan and we can breath a sigh of relief on that score. However, I am not aware of any negatives of his plan and if you can provide these I would appreciate you listing what you know.
BTW, I have a software program that all you have to do is put in your income, dependents claimed, amount withheld and your Flat tax is figured....no grief or cussing, no sweat. If you would like I can send you a free copy.

McCain/Huckabee 2008 for a GOP win

If McCain chooses Huckabee he will be able to win votes from evangelicals and the south. Huckabee has 10 1/2 years of chief executive experience and McCain and Huckabee genuinely like each other. The team would be able to focus on the voters each would be best at. Think of the youth vote available with the Rocky/Walker fans. The majority of black voters consider themselves moderate to conservative. Huckabee can help win those voters. And whatever you do don't forget about Huckabee's grassroots support and hucksarmy.com.

The average age of McCain/Huckabee will be the same as the average age of Reagan/Bush. Could that be fate?

Huckabee had great results in Arkansas.

Huckabee had great results in Arkansas. That's what really matters.

1) The state went from having a $200 Million deficit to having an $850 Million surplus.

2) The public schools went from #49 to #8 in the nation.

3) Any OTR Truck Driver can tell you that the roads and bridges went from worst to first. If he had been the governor of Louisiana for 10 1/2 years, before Hurricane Katrina hit, it's hard to imagine that the levies would have broke around New Orleans.

I hope McCain picks Huckabee. Then, I could get excited about the ticket.

McCain/Huckabee 2008

Huckabee would energize the ticket!

Absolutely! Huck has the charisma and oratorical skills that McCain (sorry, John!) lacks! He also has that WONDERFUL sense of humor that made millions of us love him even more! He is bright, witty, quick on the rebound and has a sparkle that we haven't seen since Ronald Reagan! More importantly, he is very much liked and supported by millions of blacks..remember when he quickly put together an emergency plan for the Katrina victims to be bussed into Arkansas; offering them trailers to house them? This hasn't been noted much in the news media, but yet this was an extremely kind and forthright gesture to those in need. The south was literally won, hands-down, by Huckabee and those millions who supported him would support McCain in a heartbeat if Huckabee was asked to be the v.p. We are loyal to Mike Huckabee and would stand behind our man 100%!
Huckabee for v.p....most definitely!!! GO MIKE!

Palin a better choice

To win, McCain needs a running mate who will shore up his support among Conservatives and help him attract Hillary Democrats. Huckabee would do neither. Sarah Palin on the other hand would excel at both.

As governor of Alaska, Palin has been praised by many of the same conservatives and conservative groups that loath Huckabee; such as Rush Limbaugh, the Club For Growth, Glenn Beck, Newt Gingrich (who said that Palin " may be the most aggressive reformer in the country"), Kudrow, and so on. She has built a reputation as a fiscal conservative, a strong pro-life social conservative, and a reliable 2nd amendment conservative.

Furthermore, as a soccer mom governor with movie star looks and 5 children - the oldest in the military and a newborn born with Down's Syndrome - her biography is in some ways almost as compelling as McCain's.

I like Palin BUT...

My goodness this woman has a newborn with Down Syndrome! As the mother of a seven year old, who happens to have DS, she has so much to learn about those challenges. That first year is a killer! Leave the poor woman alone for now. Let her help her baby and her state. Think farther down the political road.

And BTW, Mike Huckabee IS the guy for conservatives, southerners, main streeters, and minorities. Between them Huckabee and McCain, they hit all the necessary demographics/issues/regions! The BEST chance to win this fall is Huckabee.

Sarah Palin and Mothers

One of the reasons I feel so strongly about Sarah Palin being a great choice for McCain's running mate is because she can credibly speak for so many mothers who may not feel they have a voice in Washington.

Who better to speak for mothers, whose primary consideration will always be the health and well-being of their children, than a vice-president who is the mother of a Downs syndrome baby herself, not to mention having another child soon to be in harm's way in Iraq or Afghanistan?

I'm sure having a newborn, especially a newborn with DS, is very tough, but Palin has already returned to work. She resumed her responsibilities as governor three days after giving birth. so if she can handle being governor again so quickly, i see no problem for her being vice-president.

By the way, here's Beck speaking about palin:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=P2oVFWaEPu8

A pick from ALASKA ???????

A pick from ALASKA ??????? Are you smokin' somethin funny or what, mate ?

Sarah Palin...Yes! Alaska!

It is not geography, mate. It is gender.

Palin would be well qualified to be vice-president even if she were not a woman. She has, for example, more executive experience than either McCain, Obama, or Clinton. And with approval ratings at about 80%, her skills as an executive must be quite formidable.

However, since it is also important that a running mate be someone who can help the ticket win, Palin's gender is a legitimate and compelling reason why she should be chosen. Especially this year, with the failure of the Hillary campaign leaving so many female voters disappointed at the loss of a historic opportunity to put a woman in the White House.

To many of these voters, who are large enough in number to be a huge factor in deciding the next president, would not a McCain-Palin ticket seem more attractive than a McCain-Huckabee ticket or even an Obama-Edwards ticket?

If it is gender that should

If it is gender that should be the deciding factor -- which I do not accept -- then there are SEVERAL better picks than a Governor from beyond the horizon. Here:

CARLY FIORINA
E. JODY RELL of Connecticut
Kay Bailey Hutchinson
Condoleeza Rice (although she brings "Bush Baggage" with her)
even a female Democrat, if she would accept

of these I think only Carly Fiorina is an unmitigated PLUS

Palin a better choice

than any of these women, even if she is from Alaska.

McCain needs someone younger and with more executive experience than Hutchinson. Palin certainly brings youth (43) and executive experience.

The pro-abortion Rell would not be acceptable to Conservatives, nor would any female Democrat. Palin is pro-life and has already been embraced by Conservatives.

Rice is too associated with Bush to win the Hillary Democrats whom I believe will be the deciding factor in November. I believe Palin would attract these voters.

And Fiorina is best known for being fired by Hewlett-Packard, fairly or unfairly. she has no political experience. why would you think she would be a better running mate for McCain than Palin?

Anyone but Huckabee

To me, it should be Romney, Rice, Sanford, etc. Huck would be a disaster.

YES, Senator McCain should choose Huckabee...

Huckabee would be a very wise choice. There simply is nobody else with the combination of strong executive experience, personal charisma and grass-roots strength, with OBVIOUS strong rapport with and support for Senator McCain. I think a McCain/Huckabee ticket will defeat either of the Democrat contenders. There are many social conservatives and values voters who are very close to abandoning the GOP--enough to be a deciding factor in November's election. Putting Huckabee in the VP slot would do a lot to unite a sadly divided party.

It amazes me to see some of

It amazes me to see some of the truly off the wall VP choices that bloggers here want to recommend.

Mates, get this: the "conservatives" are HISTOIRE. End of story.

The election today is in the CENTER, maybe even left of center.

John McCain's choice should be OUTSIDE THE BOX, completely. Joe Lieberman; Mike Bloomberg; even a Hillary Democrat, if he or she will accept.

The ONLY inside the box, Republican picks who add anything to the ticket, without pinning it into the right hand corner, are Mike Huckabee, Tom Ridge, and MAYBE Tommy Thompson. Mitt Romney is wrong for many reasons (one that many have mentioned is, who needs a multi-millionaire financier in this age of recession? although Democrat Robert Rubin would do nicely) I do like Charlie Crist, but I think we will carry Florida anyway, and he is quite inexperienced in national politics. Same goes for Bobby Jindal.

You're Amazed??

I can safely say that your suggestions and view are quite...unique.

unique to this BLOG,

unique to this BLOG, probably, peopled as it seems to be by "conservatives," i.e. Jurassic Park exhibits...

Huckbee for VP?

John,

Yes, I believe that Mike Huckabee is the one to choose. He has more experience as an "accomplished" Governor than the others. He is young enough to make the country not worry about your age. He will help you capture the strong, conservative Republican base that you are lacking, so the two of your will work well together. He also believes in conservation of our natural world. He balanced the budget in Arkansas. He came up with ideas for change that go outside the box. The changes to healthcare to encompass a more pro-active method worked in his state. Data showed that for every dollar the VA in his state spent pro-actively, saved them $3. If we can get people to living healthier lifestyles, healthcare costs will be less on everyone, government included. He has a positive image accross the nation. Teamed together you can win.

McCain/Huckabee is a winning ticket!!

Iread an article written Dec. 3 2007 when neither McCain nor Huckabee was even showing up as a top tier candidate, and the article said that John McCain should be the nominee and Mike Huckabee should be the vp. This was just meant to be. These two men have a super synergy together. Body language experts gave McCain/Huckabee 97.7, extremely rare! Huckabee has courted the blue collar/middle class from day one. He "gets them" and they know it. He will bring their votes to the polls. He has tremendous success with black votes. (got 48% of the black vote in his democratic state, almost unheard of). He relates to youth, has done the college curcuit and can get that vote. He has the conserviative and evangelicals wrapped up. If you want a win in November, you will start warming up to Mike Huckabee the same way the GOP establishment has had to do to McCain. He IS the other half of the ticket. McCain go to know Governor Huckabee on the campaign trail and he is well aware of the value of Huckabee's stock" and I believe McCain will "own that stock" for a win in November. There is NO ONE out there who can give as much to the ticket as Huckabee. Anyone who says Huck is not qualified do your homework. Huckagee had the exact same job as Bill Clinton and he had it 2 1/2 times longer. Huck was also voted on of the top 5 best governors in the US (Bill Clinton was not). Huckabee has a 65% approval rating in Arkansas. He is he man!!!

I am inclined to agree about Huckabee

I do not know that much about Huckabee- but, what I have seen I like. He ran a really positive campaign & kept his good humor throughout. He also showed himself to be a man of strong convictions and of strong will. He had a great populist message, some outside the box message & of course HUGE appeal to Evangelicals. There is no question a McCain/Huckabee ticket would sweep the South & he is the one candidate that might get James Dobson to change his mind and support the ticket- that could shore up Colorado. The hardcore pro-choice will freak out, but we have lost them anyway. Huckabee is so likeable that he is sure rub off on Dems even if he is a super social conservative.
And Huckabee gets along with McCain. If the choice is between the potential drama of a Obama-Clinton-Clinton and 2 guys who really like each other & never said an unkind word even when they were competing...
It is hard to see how a McCain/Huckabee ticket could lose.

Condi would be better.

Huckabee is a big government supporter, all of his proposed solutions during his campaign seemed to involve state intervention. We need to stay away from this line and highlight the true Republican sentiments of smaller government, personal freedom, responsible economic management, and strong defense.

Condoleeza Rice is probably the most competent and most capable person available assuming she would want the job. The Bush thing only applies if you think he is a bad President and that's wrong, maybe unpopular but history will prove him right.

Condi has been a credit to the administration and the nation, and has passed every test with flying colors. McCain/Rice would be a winner.
