Meets The Press May 18--Vice President Huckabee
Tim Russert was a fine journalist with the most perception, they say of almost anyone in the business. I heard it said that he picked out Obama as the nominee long before it became evident he would beat Hillary. I found it almost prophetic (and most especially now, noteworthy) that he should continue to call Mike Huckabee "vice president Huckabee" when Huck was last on his show on May 18. Russert had that mischievious look in his eye like a schoolboy who knew a secret!! Time will tell, whether he made this last call correctly!!! He was one of the good ones and will be sorely missed!
RE: VP Huckabee
Huck seems the logical choice. He has a lot of respect for McCain and has said so in the debates, he would energize the conservatibe base, bring executive experience to the ticket from being Gov of Arkansas and potentially help carry some southern states where Obama has some strong support.
The downside is that independents may view Huck as too conservative.
I am more in the center on the social issues, which is why I supported Rudy in the primary. I'd love if McCain picked Guiliani as VP, but unfortunately I don't think that will happen. My 2nd choice would be Huck, national security and the economy are more important issues for me and Huck would make for a good ticket come November.
Russert may have nailed it.
I agree with you about Huck.
I wrote an article about it on my blog http://www.thenewconservatives.blogspot.com/ awhile back. It's also on www.realclearpolitics.com. My newest article is Why Obama won't debate McCain? It's also on realclearpolitics and my blog. I hope you get a chance to read them.
