Fred Thompson dedicated a portion of his speech at the republican national convention to the years that John McCain spent inside a Vietnamese prison camp. That was perhaps the most powerful speech of the campaign on either side. The reason it was was so powerful is because it was so real ,so vivid, and so American.
It is the story of all Americans that have sacrificed to make this country the greatest country in the world.

John McCain did not throw his fellow prisoners "under the bus" so that he could gain an advantage. He held his ground and stuck to his convictions. He did so with bravery, honor, and love for his country. John McCain believed in his fellow prisoners and what they had faught for. He was unwilling to abandon them to benefit himself. He still has that spirit of loyalty and dedication to the principles of our founding Fathers. The belief that America is and will continue to be a great country.

Here is the footage of John McCain being released from the Hanoi Hilton.

Watch and observe the humility that John McCain displays as he returns to Viet Nam with Walter Cronkite in 1985 and visits the prison where he he was tortured for more than five years.

John Sidney McCain spent 22 years serving his country in the United States Navy as a fighter pilot. He has also served in the US senate for more than 20 years. His record is a public record devoid of mysterious associations. He is literally an open book as is illustrated by his long record of service to his country and the millions of words that document his entire life from it's beginning until present. He is a fighter, a maverick,a soldier, a statesman, and a genetleman. He is a true American Hero.

Barack Obama is just not ready to lead the greatest country in the world. He has come a long way and worked hard. But "hope is not a strategy" and celebrity is as fleeting and shallow as a rainbow. There is NO pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for Obama. He has not traveled the hard road that leads to the highest office in the land.

Statement By John McCain On 9/11
ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, U.S. Senator John McCain delivered the following statement on the seventh anniversary of 9/11:

"No American living then should ever forget the heroism that occurred in the skies above this field on September 11, 2001. It is believed that the terrorists on United Flight 93 may have intended to crash the airplane into the United States Capitol. Hundreds if not thousands of people would have been at work in that building when that fateful moment occurred, and been destroyed along with a beautiful symbol of our freedom. They and, very possibly I, owe our lives to the passengers who summoned the courage and love necessary to deny our depraved and hateful enemies their terrible triumph.

"I have witnessed great courage and sacrifice for America's sake, but none greater than the sacrifice of those good people who grasped the gravity of the moment, understood the threat, and decided to fight back at the cost of their lives.

"I spoke at the memorial service for one of them, Mark Bingham. I acknowledged that few of us could say we loved our country as well as he and all the heroes of September 11 had. The only means we possess to thank them is to try to be as good an American as they were. We might fall well short of their standard, but there is honor in the effort.

"In the Gospel of John it is written, 'Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.' Such was their love; a love so sublime that only God's love surpasses it. I am in awe of it as much as I am in debt to it. May God bless their souls."

Here is a great video of GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin in and interview with CNBC's Maria Bartiromo on the the subject of Energy and Drilling. Sara tells it like it is with authority. I can't wait to hear Biden try to defend Obama's energy policies when he has to debate Sara Palin. I hope he brings his tire gauge and a copy of "The China Syndrome" as a prop.

Here is a story from WAPO that discusses Sarah Palin's run for Governor of Alaska. It includes 3 campaign ads:

Palin Ads Showcase Family, Conservative Values
By Ed O'Keefe
With so little widely known about Sarah Palin, the political ads from her 2006 gubernatorial campaign reveal a folksy style that emphasized her youth and accomplishments as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

The script and video for her biographical message, "Move Alaska Forward", emphasize: "It's time for a new generation."

"At 32, Sarah Palin was elected mayor of one of America's fastest-growing cities," the ad's announcer says. "Serving two terms, this conservative mayor lowered property tax rates and increased services. Her fellow mayors voted her president of the Conference of Mayors. Later, she was named Chairman of the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. It's time for a new generation, and Sarah Palin has the skill and experience to move Alaska forward."

Then there's the more personal message in the spot "The Palin Family":

"I'm Sarah Palin and I believe the best is yet to come for Alaska," she says. The governor is seen with her children and husband, boarding a water plane as she discusses what she'd do as governor. "I'll put new energy into a new energy into a gas line contract that puts Alaska first, and puts Alaskans to work."

Finally -- in a message that could come back to haunt her -- Alaska's scandal-plagued senior Senator, Ted Stevens (R) talks up Palin's candidacy:

"We have a state that needs new management," Steven says.

"Think of this, when you go to vote, don't go to vote alone and you'll help Sarah become the next governor of Alaska," he adds.

The ads appeared on YouTube this morning on the YouTube channel SarahPalinAds. All of the videos have the tagline "O.U. Political Communication Center" burned across the top.

These ads were uploaded in a breach of contract, as the O.U. Political Communication Center does not have a YouTube channel, according to the center's archive assistant Kristen Walker.

"If they have O.U. Political Communication Center on them and they are on YouTube, they are illegally loaded,"Walker said. "We have ads that people have given to us to archive. We don't own the copyrights, but the tape is loaned to somebody with a watermark on it and that is not supposed to be up on the Internet. We have loan agreements signed that say they will not do this."

The Political Communication Center houses more than 80,000 American political ads dating back to the Eisenhower Administration, according to Walker.
