Ron Paul

It appears Dr. Ron Paul is, "sort of," dropping out of the GOP Presidential race. With Paul, and his following, that's probably the best we can ever hope for! Here is a Los Angeles Times writer's announcement of this momentous news:

Please sit down to read this.

We are very sorry to be the blog that breaks this news to you. But it's our job. Many of you will be saddened, even devastated, to learn this. Others will say, "What?" or "Who's he?"

But Rep. Ron Paul, whom we've affectionately come to call the libertarian-like, 10-term, 72-year-old Republican representative from Texas, appears to be -- this is so hard to write -- if not quitting, then almost certainly sort of stopping his race for the Republican nomination for president. Probably.

It's true. No fooling here.

There, it's out. In a special message to supporters late tonight the congressman, who Tuesday won an overwhelming 70:30 primary victory to continue representing Texas' 14th Congressional District in the House of Representatives, doesn't actually....

Just four days ahead of the primaries in Texas and Ohio, John McCain holds commanding leads in both states according to the most recent polls.

In Ohio, a Reuters/C-Span/Zogby Poll done Feb. 26-28, has it:

62% John McCain
19% Mike Huckabee
8% Ron Paul

In Texas, Reuters/C-Span/Zogby, also done Feb. 26-28, has it:

53% John McCain
27% Mike Huckabee
11% Ron Paul (a Congressman from Texas)

Just one week ahead of the Texas GOP Primary on March 4, a new CNN Poll shows Sen. John McCain with a commanding lead over Mike Huckabee:

56% John McCain
31% Mike Huckabee
9% Ron Paul (a Texas Congressman)

It should be noted that the survey was taken Friday-Sunday, Feb. 22-24, AFTER the New York Times hit piece on McCain. It does not appear it did him any harm with Republicans!

The new survey indicates John McCain is the clear favorite in Texas for the Republican presidential nomination. Among likely Republican primary voters, 56 percent said the senator from Arizona is their choice for nominee.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won the backing of 31 percent of those questioned, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was at 9 percent. These numbers are virtually unchanged from last week's poll. The survey's sampling error for Republican respondents is also plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

McCain is the overwhelming front-runner in the fight for the GOP presidential nomination and party leaders have rallied around the candidate in an attempt for party unity. Regardless, Huckabee and Paul remain in the race for now.

There are 137 Republican delegates at stake in Texas.

The poll was conducted by telephone from Friday through Sunday. Pollsters talked to 2,149 adults in Texas, including 861 likely Democratic primary voter and 751 likely Republican primary voters.

John McCain holds an eight point lead over Mike Huckabee in Texas in a new Rasmussen Poll out today:

In the Texas Republican Presidential Primary, John McCain holds a modest eight-point advantage over Mike Huckabee. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the race shows McCain earning 45% of the vote while Huckabee attracts 37%. Ron Paul is the choice for 7% and 11% are not sure.  read more »
