RNC LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE & VIDEO
WASHINGTON – The Republican National Committee (RNC) today launched a new Web site encouraging voters to ask Barack Obama questions about the important issues facing America.
CanWeAsk.com provides Americans with an opportunity to submit text or video questions for Barack Obama regarding the issues he has failed to address or refused to answer, including:
* Why, as an Illinois state Senator, did he vote “present” over 130 times instead of “yes” or “no” on difficult issues like abortion, crime, and guns?
* On fiscal responsibility, how he intends to pay for over $660 billion in his new spending proposals and whether he can do it without raising taxes on families and small businesses?
* Why he voted against funding for our troops after promising not to use them as pawns in a war funding debate?
* Why did he tell donors in San Francisco that the economy has driven small town voters to “cling” to guns and religion?

Reuters has a story today that suggests Sen. Obama is attempting to steal the mantle of “straight talk” from Sen. McCain:
Please see the below and the attached, which put the lie to this silly notion.

Today, Obama Claimed He Has Been Accurately Re-Stating Sen. McCain's "100 Years" Comment:
Obama Told The Today Show's Meredith Vieira That He Has Not Distorted Sen. McCain's Comments. Vieira: "Senator, both you and Senator Clinton have said Senator McCain favors 100 more years of war in Iraq. Sunday in The New York Times Frank Rich wrote, really, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton should be ashamed of themselves for libeling John McCain. He felt that the American troops should be a long-term presence, the way they were in Japan and South Korea. Are you willing to admit that you've distorted his statements?" Obama: "No. that's not accurate. We can pull up the quotes on You Tube." (NBC's "The Today Show," 4/8/08)

> But Dean acknowledged that there was a path to a McCain victory.
...“I agree we’ve got to settle on a candidate on our side,” he said. “If there is a big blow up at the convention, we could lose.”
From Politico.comInternal polling data, presented privately last week at the Republican National Committee’s state chair meeting and provided to Politico, shows John McCain with a solid lead over both his potential general election rivals. Powered by the same appeal to Democrats and independents that fueled his primary election success, McCain is leading Barack Obama 48 percent to 42 percent and Hillary Clinton 51 percent to 40 percent according to RNC polling done late last month.
He’s moved ahead of the two Democrats by consolidating support among Republicans, but also by retaining his backing among a wide swath of independents and picking up a small chunk of cross-party support. read more »

In Case You Missed It
Heritage Foundation Senior Policy Analyst Rea Hederman On Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) Economic Policies
Hederman: "I think John McCain has probably the most clear vision of kind of what went wrong. We know that the housing market was engaged in a bubble. So John McCain doesn't want to enact any policies that tries to prop up the bubble, that puts taxpayers on the hook for either risky lenders or risky borrowers." (CNBC's "The Call," 3/27/08)
Hederman: "John McCain is also saying, look, if you're going to come to the Federal Reserve, use the new discount window, then yes you should be regulated. I think there is bipartisan agreement that there was some regulation breakdown. But let's look at the specific problems. People that weren't regulated correctly. We can fix the system that we have now instead of sitting there and trying to bring everybody into a new regulation system that will only increase costs down the road." (CNBC's "The Call," 3/27/08)

Carly Fiorina has been named by the Republican National Committee to lead fund-raising for get-out-the-vote efforts for John McCain.
Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, one of the nation's best-known business leaders, is taking on a new high-profile job as an advocate for presumptive GOP nominee John McCain and the Republican Party.
Fiorina was named Friday by the Republican National Committee as a leading surrogate for the McCain campaign and as chairman of fund-raising for get-out-the-vote efforts. The RNC's carefully targeted campaign to boost turnout was a key to President Bush's victory in 2004.
As a longtime backer of McCain, Fiorina "will travel all over the country, speaking to all sorts of people as a strong advocate for our economic principles," said Frank Donatelli, a veteran GOP strategist and lobbyist who became the new deputy chairman of the RNC.
Fiorina is the second Silicon Valley titan to assume an influential post in the McCain campaign. Cisco CEO John Chambers, who also is close to McCain, serves as a finance co-chairman and advises the candidate on tech issues.
Fiorina stumped for McCain in the Michigan and Florida primaries and said she got to know him "as a man of great conviction, a principled pragmatist who knows how to get things done." McCain relied on Fiorina, letting her answer questions at town halls on economic issues.
McCain made national security the centerpiece of his campaign as he secured the nomination with a string of primary victories. But as economic woes mount, including Friday's announcement of the worst job loss for the nation since 2003, the future of the economy has become a dominant issue. Fiorina will help shape McCain's economic message beyond the broad themes of lower taxes and fewer restrictions on business.
The campaign will develop "a more fulsome program over the next several weeks," Fiorina said. The campaign, she said, will promote polices that help small businesses and "make a greater investment in green technology."

1191 STARTS McCAIN’S GENERAL CAMPAIGN EXPANSION
by Carl Cameron
Until he clinches the nomination John McCain’s campaign can’t formally discuss co-opting the Republican National Committee into his general election planLook for that to change tonight and the party takeover to begin immediately.
If McCain goes over the top the campaign will move as soon as tomorrow to refocus the RNC on McCain’s candidacy. There is no shortage of emphasis on, or rather against, the democrats - the GOP national party has mountains of opposition research at the ready. The BIGGER task is getting the RNC synched up with McCain.
Unifying conservatives and the GOP is different from taking over the administration of the party apparatus.
The McCain camp will want his people in key positions. The McCainiacs will want to tailor and manage the party message to fit and compliment the candidate’s style and substance.
That is step one. Its starts Wednesday, assuming McCain clinches Tuesday with Oh, TX, VT and RI.
Any talk of McCain making an early VP pik is wrong. While the senator and insiders are happy to discuss prospects and ruminate aloud, all that has been done is to have one aide research the selection process other candidates have used. Nothing more.
They have not even begun seriously considering who will head the search team. They have not begun compiling the long and short lists. They have not discussed who will run the vetting process.
They have months to think it through and will unveil the selection only at the most opportune time possible.
The runningmate is a major ace in the hole for presidential candidates and they never want to play them too soon.

Six Former RNC Chairs Endorse John McCain For President
ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that six former Republican National Committee Chairmen, Senator Bill Brock, Ambassador Clayton Yeutter, Rich Bond, Jim Nicholson, Jim Gilmore and Ken Mehlman, have endorsed John McCain for president.
The campaign further announced that Ms. Sally Atwater, Council member of the Republican Women's Federal Forum and the wife of the late RNC Chairman Lee Atwater, has endorsed John McCain.
"John McCain is bringing our Party together around conservative principles on national security, fiscal responsibility and traditional values," said Ambassador Yeutter. "His experience, courage and character make him the only candidate ready to lead as commander in chief on day one. We must now unite the Party around our presumptive nominee, John McCain, and build toward victory in November."
Mr. Bond stated, "John McCain's conservative vision to keep America safe, prosperous and proud is uniting the Republican Party for victory in November. Now is the time to unite our Party behind our presumptive nominee, John McCain, and begin the great task of organizing to defeat the liberal Democrats and win a great victory for Republican values this fall."
Mr. Nicholson said, "John McCain offers the best chance we have to keep America safe and strong. There is no comparison."
John McCain thanked the former Party Chairs and Ms. Atwater, stating, "I admire these Republican leaders for their dedication, commitment and hard work on our Party's behalf, and I am proud to have their support. I look forward to drawing on their experience, knowledge and leadership as we continue to unite Republicans around conservative principles to defeat the Democrats and win a great victory in November."...
