Reagan on video
I think we need a break! So let's take a flashback to the outstanding speech by Ronald Reagan at the 1980 Republican National Convention. Reagan went on to defeat Pres. Jimmy Carter in the election that fall. One thing to keep in mind -- The way the media is going after Gov. Sarah Palin in such biased fashion reminds me of their hate for Ronald Reagan. Despite all their attempts to paint Reagan as too old, too lazy, an empty suit, "just an actor," a warmonger, etc., etc., he won! He won because he was right on the issues and he connected with the American people. Sarah Palin can weather all that is being throw at her if she can communicate that she is right on the issues, and can connect with the American people. I believe she will.

GOP Convention Flashback: Ronald Reagan's Impromptu Speech at the 1976 Republican Convention - Video
Here is video of the impromptu speech delegates demanded Ronald Reagan give at the 1976 GOP Convention. Reagan had lost a very tight race for the nomination with the more moderate President Gerald R. Ford. After Ford had given his acceptance speech, he graciously beckoned to the Reagans to come to the stage. The delegates began to chant, "Speech!." Reagan then gave a brief but compelling speech on the spur-of-the-moment. This video also gives some background leading up to the speech.
UPDATE: Here is the impromptu speech Reagan gave in full, preceded by an introduction to what happened that night:

Over the next several days as the Republican National Convention gets underway in Minneapolis, Minnesota, September 1-4, we will post some of the speeches of past GOP Conventions here at Blogs for John McCain.
We begin with the speech that Ronald Reagan delivered to delegates at the 1964 GOP Convention. This speech elevated Reagan to the consciousness of Conservative Republicans, and really launched his political career.

Here is a great compilation video of Ronald Reagan essentially saying, "Yes, we can," without the government doing everything for us, unlike what is being proposed by Barack Obama. These are the principles Reagan stood for, and the principles John McCain will govern by as President. It's a stark choice:
