Obama VP Choice

John McCain has moved out to a two-point lead over Barack Obama in the latest Gallup Daily Tracking Poll! This is the first time since early June that McCain has led in the poll. As Gallup explains, this poll shows that Obama has officially received "no bounce" from his selection of Joe Biden as his running mate:

It's official: Barack Obama has received no bounce in voter support out of his selection of Sen. Joe Biden to be his vice presidential running mate.

Gallup Poll Daily tracking from Aug. 23-25, the first three-day period falling entirely after Obama's Saturday morning vice presidential announcement, shows 46% of national registered voters backing John McCain and 44% supporting Obama, not appreciably different from the previous week's standing for both candidates. This is the first time since Obama clinched the nomination in early June, though, that McCain has held any kind of advantage over Obama in Gallup Poll Daily tracking.

The race for president has been virtually tied since mid-August. In this period, Obama's support from national registered voters has consistently ranged from 44% to 46%. The 46% currently supporting McCain is technically his best showing since late May/early June, but is not a statistically significant improvement over his recent range from 43% to 45%.

Here is video of John McCain talking with CBS News' Katie Couric today. He discussed the pick of Joe Biden to be Barack Obama's running mate, and also answered questions on the issue of how many houses he owns. McCain very effectively explains that he is grateful for the success and blessings he has received from this great nation. He also shared that he knows what it is to "not have a home" and "not have a kitchen table."

Rather than not being able to sympathize with those in need and want in America, John McCain's experience uniquely positions him to identify with those Americans who are suffering. He knows what it is to suffer and be in need.

Here is video of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani on ABC News "This Week" discussing the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Giuliani says the choice of Biden is a real insult to Hillary Clinton, and describes the ticket as essentially the "Obama-No Clinton" Ticket.

Hugh Hewitt writes that in light of Joe Biden's selection by Barack Obama to be his Vice-Presidential nominee, the obvious move for John McCain is to select Mitt Romney:

McCain Counters With . . .

Romney, of course. The same factors in Romney's favor -- pull in Michigan, Nevada, Colorado and New Hampshire, the energy brought by his organization-- are still there, but the pick of Biden calls for a very experienced debater as the only thing Slow Joe has going for him is the thousand or so primary season debates he has under his belt. Romney has the same sort of experience in the one setting where the veep nominees get the nation's undivided attention.

There is also the stark contrast between Romney's experience outside of politics --business and the Olympics-- and the emerging success of his health care program in MA and the 36 years of all talk all the time from Biden. McCain's enormous record of sacrifice and achievement already show up Obama's thin life experience. If Biden is compared to Romney on the basis of the accomplishments of the past 30 years, the argument is over before it begins.

The fall campaign is shaping up as one of substance and achievement versus hot air; of seriousness on subjects such as the war, energy and growing the economy versus endless speechifying and gaffes.

Here is video of "Humble Joe" Biden in 1988 responding to a reporter's question about his law school career with the answer, "“I think I probably have a much higher IQ than you do." Adding this guy and his ego to Obama's messianic ego certainly means you had better stock up on the popcorn for the next two months! As the pressure builds, there are bound to be some more moments like this one.

As a Presidential Candidate this year, Joe Biden advocated for the division of Iraq into three ethnic parts - Sunni, Shi'ite, and Kurdish - saying that no other approach would ever work in Iraq. He has been soundly proven wrong by the Surge Strategy championed by John McCain. Here is part of a report that let's America know what the people of Iraq think about Obama's choice of Biden - the man and his plan they have not forgotten:

Senator Joe Biden may be one of the only U.S. politicians that can get Iraq's feuding Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurdish politicians to agree. But not in a good way.

Across racial and religious boundaries, Iraqi politicians on Saturday bemoaned Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama's choice of running mate, known in Iraq as the author of a 2006 plan to divide the country into ethnic and sectarian enclaves.

"This choice of Biden is disappointing, because he is the creator of the idea of dividing Iraq," Salih al-Mutlaq, head of National Dialogue, one of the main Sunni Arab blocs in parliament, told Reuters.

"We rejected his proposal when he announced it, and we still reject it. Dividing the communities and land in such a way would only lead to new fighting between people over resources and borders. Iraq cannot survive unless it is unified, and dividing it would keep the problems alive for a long time."

Delaware senator Biden unveiled his plan to divide Iraq into a federation of autonomous Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurdish zones at a time when sectarian killing in Iraq was out of control and getting worse.

"The idea, as in Bosnia, is to maintain a united Iraq by decentralizing it, giving each ethno-religious group -- Kurd, Sunni Arab and Shiite Arab -- room to run its own affairs," he proposed in a May 2006 piece he co-wrote in the New York Times.

"The Kurdish, Sunni and Shiite regions would each be responsible for their own domestic laws, administration and internal security. The central government would control border defense, foreign affairs and oil revenues," Biden said. . . .

"The original 'Biden plan' seems less relevant in Iraq today than at any point," said Reidar Visser, a Norwegian academic and editor of the Iraq-focused website historiae.org. "The trend in parliament is clearly in a more national direction, with political parties coming together across sectarian divides.

"In other words, there is a very strong Iraqi mobilization against precisely the core elements of the Biden plan, and it would be extremely unwise of the Democratic Party to make Biden's ideas the centerpiece of their Iraq strategy," he added.

Today, even Kurds who already have their own autonomous enclave in northern Iraq say they oppose the "Biden plan".

"We don't support establishing federal regions on a sectarian basis. For example our region is not ethnic, it contains Kurds and non-Kurds. The regions should be established on a geographic basis," said Kurdish lawmaker Mahmoud Othman.

Ezzet al-Shabender, a member of parliament from the secularist Iraqi List of former prime minister Ayad Allawi, actually credited the broad-based disgust triggered by Biden's proposal for helping Iraqi politicians bury their differences.

"His project was the reason behind the unity of many political blocs that once differed in viewpoints," he said, comparing it to the Balfour Declaration, a 1917 British note that backed the creation of Israel and is regarded across the Arab world as the ultimate colonial injustice.

"Such a person, if he would assume the vice-presidency post, would not serve to improve Iraq-USA relations."

Today at the announcement of Joe Biden as Barack Obama's Vice-Presidential running mate, Joe Biden spoke after being introduced by Obama as the next "President" of the United States. When Biden spoke, he then returned the favor by saying "the next President of the United States -- Barack America." I kid you not!

As the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words!"

Here is a video that highlights the fact that even Obama's new running mate - Joe Biden - knows that he lacks the preparation and experience to be President. The Obama-Biden ticket is "change you can laugh at."

NOTE: This video was produced by Lane - founder of Blogs for John McCain. He posted it at the bottom of a post earlier today. But I thought it was so good it should be highlighted in it's own post!

Here is the perfect response ad to Barack Obama's choice of Joe Biden to be his Vice-Presidential running mate -- Biden in his own words.
