Obama and America
In his speech last night following primary losses in the two huge states of Ohio and Texas, Barack Obama gave a speech that repeated most of the rhetoric he has been saying all campaign long. Included in that speech was a moment I have yet to hear anyone else comment on. Obama essentially said that America, under his Presidency, will stop being a "bully."
In the video from the speech provided below (move the bar to the 5:45-6:09 section), you will hear Obama say that America needs to stop "substituting bluster and bullying for direct diplomacy. . ." It would be interesting to hear Obama explain where America has been a bully. He ties the comment to the need for a President to talk directly with "petty Dictators," as if doing so will be more effective than what he must considering bullying.
Obama's remark adds to what appears to be a developing theme, that may tie in to his wife's recent remarks about America. Michelle Obama said recently that she is proud of her country for the "first time in my adult life", as a result of the response to her husband's campaign. She also said America is a country that is "just downright mean."
The Obamas, and actually the worldview of the far-left liberals, don't see the greatest nation on earth when they see America. They don't see a noble country whose brave men and women "have shed more blood to gain and preserve the freedom and liberty of others than all the other nations of the world combined," as former Sen. Fred Thompson so eloquently stated. They don't see a nation who has freed the Iraqi people from tyranny and oppression and given them a real chance at a better life. The America they see needs to be fixed - needs to be remade and transformed - in their liberal leftist image.
I suspect what they will find out is that most Americans are proud of their country, and while America has challenges, is not a nation that needs to be "fixed" in terms of her goodness and greatness. Most Americans know they live in the most noble, self-sacrificing nation to ever exist - without being fixed by the Obamas.
