McCain's Vice President
Here is a story from WAPO that discusses Sarah Palin's run for Governor of Alaska. It includes 3 campaign ads:
Palin Ads Showcase Family, Conservative Values
By Ed O'Keefe
With so little widely known about Sarah Palin, the political ads from her 2006 gubernatorial campaign reveal a folksy style that emphasized her youth and accomplishments as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. The script and video for her biographical message, "Move Alaska Forward", emphasize: "It's time for a new generation."
"At 32, Sarah Palin was elected mayor of one of America's fastest-growing cities," the ad's announcer says. "Serving two terms, this conservative mayor lowered property tax rates and increased services. Her fellow mayors voted her president of the Conference of Mayors. Later, she was named Chairman of the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. It's time for a new generation, and Sarah Palin has the skill and experience to move Alaska forward."
Then there's the more personal message in the spot "The Palin Family":
"I'm Sarah Palin and I believe the best is yet to come for Alaska," she says. The governor is seen with her children and husband, boarding a water plane as she discusses what she'd do as governor. "I'll put new energy into a new energy into a gas line contract that puts Alaska first, and puts Alaskans to work."
Finally -- in a message that could come back to haunt her -- Alaska's scandal-plagued senior Senator, Ted Stevens (R) talks up Palin's candidacy:
"We have a state that needs new management," Steven says.
"Think of this, when you go to vote, don't go to vote alone and you'll help Sarah become the next governor of Alaska," he adds.
The ads appeared on YouTube this morning on the YouTube channel SarahPalinAds. All of the videos have the tagline "O.U. Political Communication Center" burned across the top.
These ads were uploaded in a breach of contract, as the O.U. Political Communication Center does not have a YouTube channel, according to the center's archive assistant Kristen Walker.
"If they have O.U. Political Communication Center on them and they are on YouTube, they are illegally loaded,"Walker said. "We have ads that people have given to us to archive. We don't own the copyrights, but the tape is loaned to somebody with a watermark on it and that is not supposed to be up on the Internet. We have loan agreements signed that say they will not do this."
The Political Communication Center houses more than 80,000 American political ads dating back to the Eisenhower Administration, according to Walker.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to celebrate his 72nd birthday on Aug. 29 by naming his running mate at a huge rally in the battleground state of Ohio, Republican sources said.
That’s a week from Friday, and the day after his rival, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, accepts the Democratic nomination at a 70,000-person spectacular in a Denver stadium.
The campaign has begun building a crowd of 10,000 for Dayton, Ohio, according to an organizer. McCain is scheduled to appear with his running mate at a large-scale event in Pennsylvania shortly thereafter.
Senior Republicans are in the dark about who he’ll name, although they say former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty are prime contenders after a trial balloon by McCain gave him very negative feedback about the idea of picking an abortion-rights running mate such as Tom Ridge, the former governor of Pennsylvania and the first secretary of homeland security.
Sources close to McCain say he has wrestled with the choice, torn between a high-stakes, high-reward pick like Ridge or Connecticut Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman — the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000 — or a safer and more conventional selection such as Romney or Pawlenty.
Friends say he has yet to make a final decision, and is not expected to do so until after Sen. Barack Obama announces his choice.
McCain friends emphasized that he talks about the decision with almost no one, and could even change the announcement plans and go sooner.
“McCain views this as the one decision that he has total, utter, nonnegotiable control over,” one campaign official said.
The announcement strategy — provided McCain doesn’t change it — calls for naming the pick early Friday morning to try to suppress Obama’s bounce coming out of his convention.
“You’re going to own the weekend,” a McCain official said.
The Republican convention begins the following Monday — Labor Day — in St. Paul, Minn.
McCain advisers say they don’t think it would make sense to name the vice presidential designee earlier because the impact would get diluted by Obama’s selection. And because the GOP convention is second, they have the advantage of knowing the opposition ticket before showing their own cards.
“You can fire the bullet once,” said one key Republican. “You want the most meaningful target.”
Alex M. Triantafilou, chairman of the Hamilton County (Ohio) Republican Party, said in an exuberant post on his blog this weekend: “Sen. McCain is expected to host a rally on August 29 in Dayton and is looking for a BIG venue and for a BIG crowd. He'll get it. This is not yet public. I guess I just made it so.”
The post has been removed without explanation.
PolitickerOH.com reported Monday morning that the event will be at the 10,000-seat Ervin J. Nutter Center, a sports and entertainment complex at Wright State University.

07/21/2008Sources close to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign are suggesting he will reveal the name of his vice presidential selection this week while Sen. McCain closes in on VP
John McCain has narrowed his vice-presidential possibilities to the point where he considered a decision this week -- but he’s likely to hold off, say sources close to the campaign.
The prospect of stepping on Barack Obama's much-anticipated overseas trip with the headline-grabbing news was discussed among the small inner-circle of McCain aides and advisers privy to the running mate decision, according to a McCain source.
This person declined to categorically rule out an announcement in the coming days, but other plugged-in sources said it was unlikely.
Officially, McCain representaives declined to comment.
But, relishing the diversion, they also did not discourage the speculation.
“A smart feint,” one Republican source said.
One inner-circle McCain adviser said the longtime plans are to name the selection close to the Republican convention, on the theory that all that really matters is the final sprint to Election Day.
“No one is panicking about this week,” the adviser said. “Frankly, it is excellent for the press to be getting Obamamania out of their system.”
Rumors first circulated last week among GOP insiders about a possible July announcement. The columnist Robert Novak touched off a frenzy Monday evening when he posted an item -- quickly linked by Drudge -- reporting that McCain would "reveal the name of his vice presidential selection this week."

Jeb Bush will meet with John McCain in Mexico according to this story from ABC News via Jonathan Martin's Blog
I was wondering where Jeb was. I can only wonder if this meeting has any substance. But I am sure that it will generated a huge amount of speculation in the media.
Jeb Bush may have the wrong last name for 2008 but he sure as hell has the credentials.
After serving his term as Governor of Florida, Jeb has been off the radar. That is until he reversed his long held position regarding drilling off the coast of Florida. He now supports it.
Between the war in Iraq, the price of gas, and only about 4 month's left in this election cycle, McCain/Bush might be able to pull it off.
Doubtful and controversial, but fun to ponder.
Over at the Politico, Jonathan Martin reports on speculation that House GOP's Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor is a potential running mate for Senator McCain.

Eric Cantor, the House GOP's Chief Deputy Whip and a Virginian, is the latest name to be floated as McCain's number two.
It just happened to come on the same day that he was named by the RNC as Chairman of committee's Victory Jewish Coalition, where he will help raise money and votes from the Jewish community.
Though widely viewed as a rising star in the House, it may have helped his prospects a bit more had his big mention not come from his hometown paper.
Still, it likely won't be his last. read more »
