Here is the text of Sen. John McCain's speech in Youngstown, Ohio, today, April 22, 2008. His appearance at Youngstown State University today marked Day 2 of his "It's Time for Action Tour:"

Thank you for that kind welcome, and for the hospitality of Youngstown State University. I appreciate this chance to share my views and to hear yours.

It's a big news day in politics, with the Pennsylvania primary and all. And I've been left recently in the unfamiliar position of facing no opposition within my own party. As you might recall, it was a different story last year, when I could claim the unqualified support of Cindy and my mother -- and Mom was starting to keep her options open. Back then, there were some very impressive frontrunners ... there was a very formidable second tier of contenders ... and then there was me. As I recall, a few pollsters even declared my campaign a hopeless cause, and there was no margin of error to soften the blow.

But a person learns along the way that if you hold on -- if you don't quit no matter what the odds -- sometimes life will surprise you. Sometimes you get a second chance, and opportunity turns back your way. And when it does, we are stronger and readier because of all that we had to overcome.  read more »

Here is video in three parts of today's speech (April 7, 2008) by Sen. John McCain to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. From the introduction McCain received, it is clear how VFW feels about the need to elect a President who will not say with words alone he/she "supports the troops," but will prove it by supporting the mission they have sacrificed and died for as well. McCain delivers a great speech here, making it clear that the Democrats are offering a recipe for disaster in calling for a "reckless and irresponsible retreat from Iraq," a plan that would lead to even greater sacrifice and bloodshed in the future. Here is video of Sen. John McCain speaking in Memphis, TN, on the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., April 4, 2008.

Toward the end of his remarks, John McCain said he had been wrong to initially oppose the establishment of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day National Holiday, a statement met by a mixture of cheers and jeers from the crowd on hand. The national media has been playing that small clip endlessly today. McCain's full remarks are really quite good, and he was courageous to go there today and say what he did.
