Sen. John McCain, fresh off his week-long trip overseas, begins a full week of events with three days in California by heading to La Jolla and Palm Desert today:

Arizona Sen. John McCain is scheduled to attend a $2,300-per-person fundraising reception in Palm Desert today in his first trip to California since becoming the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, a campaign aide said.

Arizona Sen. John McCain is set to begin a three-day trip to Southern California today by attending a campaign fundraising luncheon at a La Jolla hotel and a town hall meeting with military families in Chula Vista.

On Tuesday, McCain is scheduled to attend a roundtable for Latino small business owners in Santa Ana and fundraisers in Newport Beach and Bel-Air and speak to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles.

Here are more detailed plans for John McCain's overseas trip set to begin next week:

Republican candidate John McCain set plans on Monday to visit Israel, Britain and France next week in a trip likely to play up the national security credentials he hopes will carry him into the White House.

McCain, the likely nominee to represent his party against the Democratic candidate in the November election, will start his trip on March 18 with a visit to Jerusalem to discuss the Middle East, which he said he would focus on if elected.

"Absolutely, particularly given the level of tensions, the exchange of fire across Israel's border aimed at innocent people. There's Hamas, a terrorist organization now governing Gaza, ... considerable unrest in southern Lebanon. There's very big issues that need to be addressed," he told reporters in Phoenix.

He will visit London on March 19 and 20 and go to Paris on March 21, said his Senate office in Washington.

The Arizona senator will be joined by two stalwart Senate supporters, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democrat-turned-Independent who was the Democrats' vice presidential nominee in 2000, and South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham.

McCain has clinched the Republican presidential nomination and is free to travel abroad while his Democratic rivals, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, fight over the Democratic nomination. The presidential election is on November 4.

The 71-year-old McCain, who said he got a clean bill of health from his doctor after a physical checkup on Monday, is staking his claim on the presidency on his national security experience, and his foreign trip will play into that theme.

McCain told reporters on his flight from Phoenix to St. Louis that he would like to see more NATO participation in Afghanistan.

"But I don't intend to berate our European friends. I don't think that's appropriate. I hope that we can have a process of consultation. As I said, I have talked with European leaders about these issues for many years. And I intend to continue that dialogue with them," he said. . . .

John McCain will be in St. Louis tonight for a fundraiser, and will also hold a Town Hall Meeting in the St. Louis area tomorrow, March 11:

Sen. John McCain is scheduled to be in suburban St. Louis for two days to raise money and host a town hall meeting.

The Arizona senator and presumptive Republican presidential nominee is scheduled to appear at a reception and photo opportunity Monday evening in Frontenac, Mo. Tickets for both are $2,300 per person. Tickets for the reception alone are $1,000 per person.

On Tuesday, McCain will host a town hall meeting at Savvis Inc., in Chesterfield, Mo.

McCain will also meet with the media on Monday at Lambert Airport, prior to the fundraiser, and after the town hall meeting on Tuesday.

Here is part of a great article written by The Weekly Standard's Stephen Hayes, an outstanding writer and journalist. Hayes lays out what John McCain plans to do with his campaign in the weeks ahead:

So while McCain's effort will begin to take on the qualities of a real general election campaign, he intends to preserve much of the insurgent character that helped him get this far. Either way, it will be unconventional and, at the beginning, nonideological.

After a quick "thank you" tour of New Hampshire, McCain plans to kick off the new phase of the campaign by not campaigning at all. At least not overtly. Later this month, he will spend more than a week overseas, with stops in Europe and the Middle East. His advisers say that while McCain is going chiefly to assess progress in these areas, he will also reinforce an important campaign message as the Obama-Clinton fight continues. "While those two are throwing deck chairs at each other, he'll look like the president," says a senior adviser to McCain.

When he returns, McCain will deliver what one adviser calls a "significant national security address," talking specifically about the future of the war in Iraq, the importance of a stable Iraq to U.S. policy in the region, and more broadly, how a McCain administration would win the struggle against radical Islamic extremism.  read more »

According the paper, the Republican candidate is set to meet Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on his trip.

Here are details of a 16-city fundraising tour already underway for John McCain. His visits to Florida and Atlanta were the beginning of that tour that will continue in the weeks ahead:

U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona is embarking on a 16-city fundraising blitz that will be financed by well-heeled corporate CEOs, real estate developers and private equity fund managers.

The effort is aimed at catching up with Democrats in the presidential money chase.
