Here is a sample:

Unfortunately I got knocked off today's conference call because my phone crapped out. Amazing isn't it? ;)

Needless to say I was able to get a good portion of the call. Once other bloggers post about it, I will link to some of them as well.

Here's some highlights.

Senator McCain wanted to highlight his speech from this morning regarding what he wants America to look like after his first term in office.

McCain believes that we will have won the war in Iraq. The Iraqi government as well as the military will be in total control of their country.

The American troop presence will be smaller but not gone.

Senator McCain would love to debate either Senator Obama or Senator Clinton on how we are doing in Iraq. McCain believes that the facts on the ground will make it easy for him to win that debate when it comes.

On the recent developments in Lebanon, McCain said it now looks like a proxy war between Iran and the US, who are each backing sides. He went on to say that Obama's willingness to unconditionally sit down and talk with the Iranian leader Ahmadinejad shows "the highest naivety" and further proves that he does not have the knowledge, experience, or background to be in charge of our national security.

McCain also questioned just exactly what Obama wants to talk about with Iran?

When asked what it would take for him to have a sit down with Iran, McCain listed 4 preconditions.

  • Iran needs to denounce it's call for the destruction of Israel
  • Iran needs to halt it's development of Nuclear weapons
  • Stop exporting weapons and terrorist support into IraQ
  • Iran must stop the exporting of state sponsored terrorism

Senator McCain was asked about Obama's changing positions on things like free trade. McCain pointed out that he has seen Obama say one thing in front of a crowd in one state, then go to another and say the opposite while in another.

On Newt Gingrich, Senator McCain said that he would like to sit down and talk with Newt. He said that Newt " has some of the best ideas of anyone in this country."

On the energy crisis, Senator McCain feels that Nuclear power has to be a component in the future.

One questioner asked if by highlighting 2013, does that mean McCain would be giving an "exit timeline date." McCain responded that 2013 was not setting a date of any sort. That's where my phone bit the dust.. ;)

UPDATE: You can find a good writeup on the call here.

This morning I sat in on a conference call that Senator McCain held with bloggers. Here's a short writeup of some of the highlights.

On his visit to Inez Kentucky yesterday, Senator McCain pointed out that this was where President Lyndon B. Johnson declared "the war on poverty" back some 40 years ago. He told bloggers that a lesson we should learn is that local government is more effective that large bureaucracies working in Washington DC.

On yesterdays walk through in New Orleans 9th ward, Senator McCain wants the American people to know that they deserve a better response to disasters such as Katrina.

Regarding the economy, Senator McCain wanted to make the point that if you believe in higher taxes, he is not your guy. Spending in Washington is out of control and we need to stop it. He pointed to some 12,000 earmarks that have cost the American taxpayers over $42 billions dollars.

Senator McCain believes that economic growth increases revenue. He raised the issue of capital gains and how Obama wants to increase the capital gains tax, despite the evidence going back over 40 years to President Kennedy that lowering the capital gains tax results in increased revenue. Senator Mccain believes that anyone who pushes for an increase on such taxes, does not understand the fundamentals of economics.

On his support of the Gas Tax Holiday, Senator McCain said that we need to give Americans a break this summer and that the tax holiday would save motorists 18 cents a gallon on gas and 24 cents a gallon on diesel.

Senator McCain was asked about Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers and if Obama is obligated to talk about him. Mccain called Ayers a "Unrepentant Terrorist," and pointed out that Ayers group "the Weather Underground" was responsible for the deaths of some folks.

Regarding the North Carolina ad, McCain responded that the ad was not the tenor of the campaign that he wanted to raise. He instead wants it to be about the differences between he and Obama in areas such as national security and the economy.

On Iraq, Senator McCain told bloggers that he was "rather pleased" with Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki and the Iraqi army's taking control of Basra. He said it has been a "pleasant turn of events."

Regarding Barack Obama being the choice of Hamas over McCain, the Senator replied that he would be "Hamas worst nightmare" and that he would naturally not want them supporting him. He believes that Senator Obama is sending "incorrect signals to Hamas" like how he would be willing to sit down with folks like Iranian leader Ahmadinejad.

Today Senator McCain will be heading out to Little Rock Arkansas where he will be joined by former governor Mike Huckabee. I'm sure we will have more info on that today here on Blogs For John McCain.
