McCain

Is there anyone out there than can explain McCain's dismal voting record on veteran's affairs? It doesn't really make sense, how he was a POW for 6 years, yet it appears that he doesn't vote for veterans very often. I've done a little searching around, but haven't found anything to explain why he so rarely votes for veterans. Anyone? (References are appreciated).

These last two debates, while they have been a far cry from an embarrasment, haven't really done much, in my opinion, to change anyone's minds. Yes, we saw in some forums where Palin changed some minds, but polls are still showing McCain slipping behind. McCain needs to find some new stuff to "preach". He keeps saying the same ole thing and it's not having an effect. He has to be a hard hitter in the next two debates, make Obama look like he's out of his league, and he has to come up with some new things to talk about. We've heard the Maverick bit...we've heard the history that McCain has been a part of...America isn't biting on those points anymore. McCain needs to refrain from lofty answers, just give the straight talk that he is known for. Give us specifics...on his plans and on the falacies of Obama's plans. Make sure the claims are legit and make sure he quotes things that we the people can look up for verification. Use scare tactics...talk about Obama's shady dealings in the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac crisis. Talk about how he wants to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Talk about all that stuff that only serious McCain supporters know about...the leaners need to hear it. Enough of the same ole talk...give the people something fresh...set fear in their minds, but don't go too far of course, don't say anything that the average American wouldn't be able to believe/accept. Quote a few things about his past, but not so much that it reminds people how "old" he is (why people are so afraid of this, after seeing his mother at the conventions dressed to the nines and very obviously of sound mind in her 90's, I have no idea).

Please McCain...don't miss out on your opportunity...you have to stop being respectful and start fighting for this presidency...otherwise you're going to lose it...and your loss will be a very heavy price for all of us to pay.

So, the Senate has now passed a modified (Hopefully, better) bailout plan. The Dems in the Senate tried to insert AGAIN the incredibly obnoxious provision to divert up to 20% of the funds to ACORN!
That group of gangsters (and the Armani-suits behind them) bears major responsibility for creating the subprime debacle in the firstplace.
And, of course, Obama was responsible for training them in Alinski tactics back in his Chicago days.

Well, the Senate Republicans got that provision out last night, but the bill still has to go back to the Pelosi House. And she MAY insist on reinserting the ACORN opportunity language.

Here's a thought: EVEN IF you believe the bailout plan is critical to our economic survival, contact your congressman TODAY and ask that he vote against the bill if it contains the toxic ACORN provision! Do that especially if your Congressman is a Democrat. Most Republicans would refuse to support the bill with that toxic provision in it, but Dems are under greater pressure from Pelosi.
If we have to vote it down again in order to stop funding ACORN with our tax dollars, then vote it down. Make 'em remove any such provision!

"Mainstream media" (MSM) never was an accurate representation of what this country's major print and broadcast news sources are and what they do. "Mainstream" is defined, when used as an adjective, as "representing the prevailing attitudes, values and practices of a society or group." The media, as a group, certainly has a set of prevailing attitudes, values and practices, but they are not those of American society, rather only representative of the more liberal elements of American society. It was when talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh eschewed the oxymoronic "MSM" appellation and coined the more appropriate term "drive-by media" (DBM) that we get a fitting label for today's fifth column Fourth Estate.

According to a Rasmussen poll conducted earlier this month, a majority of those surveyed believe that the DBM is not only biased against GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, but it is actively working to do her in:

Over half of U.S. voters (51%) think reporters are trying to hurt Sarah Palin with their news coverage, and 24% say those stories make them more likely to vote for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in November.

If this same poll were to be taken today, I'd wager that 51% figure would have only moved higher, for the DBM has increased both the frequency and the ferocity of its attacks on Gov. Palin. Rasmusssen's study was conducted prior to the two major network interviews of Palin, first by ABC's Charles Gibson one week after the poll, and this week by CBS' Katie Couric.

While ABC and CBS have have been setting Gov. Palin up, NBC has been busy knocking her down. Human Events editor Jed Babbin accurately described the two NBC networks as "Obama surrogates" in a column two weeks ago. More recently, MSNBC's Three Stooges for Obama - Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow - have been flying daily carpet bombing sorties against Palin, and even that network's morning show host, former GOP congressman Joe Scarborough, has cast himself in the role of The Fourth Stooge (not sure if he's Shemp or Emil Sitka) with his cluck-clucking this week about how Sarah's answers to Katie's questions just go to show that she's "not ready" for all of this running-for-VP business.

CNN, for its part, seems to be only too happy to cut and paste false information about Palin from the Left's nutroots websites in the form of doctored photos, distorted quotes and outright lies clearly intended to smear the Alaska governor and her family.

Virtually unheard, in all this DBM Palin-bashing, is any attempt at showing balance by giving equal time and space to Gov. Palin's Democrat counterpart Sen. Joe Biden. Indeed, any rational analysis of the two vice presidential candidates shows that Biden is one who's not ready for prime time.

Which of the two is more of a drag on his or her respective presidential ticket? The DBM would have voters believe that Palin is hurting John McCain because her answers to "gotcha" questions from Gibson and Couric were less than smoothly handled. Oh, really? Let's test that hypothesis.

Even liberal print outlets Washington Post and San Fancisco Chronicle have been forced to admit that Gov. Palin has energized the Republican Party's base. Moreover, Gallup polling indicates that John McCain's selection of Palin has broadened support for his ticket among a crucial voter demographic - independent swing voters. In another key demographic, white women, the addition of Gov. Palin to McCain's ticket has resulted in a major payoff, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll:

Before the Democratic National Convention in late August, Obama held an 8-point lead among white women voters, 50 percent to 42 percent, according to the Washington Post/ABC News poll. After the Republican convention in early September, McCain was ahead by 12 points among white women, 53 percent to 41 percent, that survey found.

A 20-point reversal is not just significant; it is nothing short of dramatic. Rather than being a drag on the GOP ticket, as the DBM's talking heads claim, we see that the reverse is true.

So how is Sen. Joe Biden helping Sen. Barack Obama's ticket? Hot Air's Allahpundit points out that twice in just 18 hours this week, Biden undermined his own campaign. He criticized an official Obama Campaign ad, and he gaffed big time by directly contradicting Obama's clean coal policy. In the critical battleground states of Pennsylvania and Virginia, which both also happen to be coal states with significant numbers of United Mine Workers members among their respective populations, such self-inflicted wounds could prove to be fatal.

These are just two very recent examples of a well-known Biden characteristic - like the oppositely-charged poles of two bar magnets, his foot and his mouth share a mutual attraction. Unlike McCain's choice of Palin, Obama's pick of Biden to be his running mate resulted in no significant bounce in the numbers for the Democrat's presidential nominee.

Yet, the media assault on Sarah Palin continues unabated. It makes one wonder, "What are they thinking?" We have already seen the potential for a major boomerang effect which could knock the DBM out cold and send the Democrats reeling. In an op-ed for Real Clear Politics, Robert Tracinski observes:

I have never seen anything like the wave of hostility and contempt aimed at Sarah Palin from the moment she was nominated. This press partisanship is a crucial part of the story, because it explains the difficulty of discovering who Sarah Palin is. And ironically, the pompous hostility of the press has served as a foil which Palin has used to increase her popular appeal.

In the final analysis, the media assault on Sarah Palin could be as damaging to Obama's campaign as the loose and loaded cannon that is Joe biden's mouth.

But have the talking heads of the DBM and other Democrat operatives noticed? The constrast between Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden, as well as the potential ramifications to their respective presidential tickets, is conspicuously absent from their list of talking points.

Can Mccain use the 'no time for a novice' line on Novice Obama?

GB's Gordon Brown said there is no time for a novice (in these difficult times).

BBC NEWS | Politics | No time for a novice, says Brown

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7630567.stm

I like to think of myself as a reasonable person, not inclined to penalize someone over an unfortunate gaffe.

But, to me, this speaks volumes about Obama's charater.

On NBC's Meet the Press Sunday, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson voiced confidence in the long term fundamentals of the U.S. economy. According to Reuters:

Asked about the fundamentals of the U.S. economy, Paulson said, "I won't bet against the American people ... We will work through this."

John McCain has taken quite a beating from the Left and its captive media for saying essentially the same thing:

"My opponents may disagree, but those fundamentals, the American worker and their innovation, their entrepreneurship, the small business, those are the fundamentals of America and I think they’re strong."

Nice to know that Paulson has McCain's six convered...

Here is a transcript of the second part of John McCain's speech to the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. This message needs to get out to the voters!

“All of these measures will calm and help us to avoid future panics and disasters in the financial markets. But to get through this tough time for America, and to come out stronger, we need a strategy of economic growth. And the massive new tax burden that my opponent plans for the American economy is exactly the wrong answer. His tax increase -- along with the enormous new federal programs he proposes -- are the surest way to turn a recession into a depression. In every respect, the Obama tax hikes would make things even worse for the working people of this country.

I have proposed, and will sign into law, an economic recovery plan for working Americans that is directed to the middle class. It will grow this economy, create millions of jobs and bring opportunity back to Americans. You will get a tax policy that creates family prosperity and allows you to save for the future. I will not raise your taxes on income or investments. And we will simplify the tax code so people can understand it and do their tax returns themselves.

I will give every family a $5,000 credit to buy their own health insurance policy and let them chose their own doctor. This will make insurance affordable to every American.

I will double the child exemption from $3,500 to $7,000 to help families pay for the rising cost of living.

Under my plan, a married couple with two children making $35,000 will get $5,000 to pay for health insurance and additional medical expenses. This family would get another $1,050 from my child exemption. That adds up to over $6,000. That is a lot more than what any hardworking middle class family, gets under the Obama plan.

Business taxes will be cut from the second highest in the world at 35 percent to 25 percent. Tax incentives will spur investment in new plants and equipment. Research and development incentives will keep companies on the cutting edge of their industries. Healthcare costs will diminish. Companies will stop sending jobs overseas to low-cost, low-tax countries and start creating jobs here in America.

I will expand markets for our goods and services. A one in five of all jobs in this country are linked to world trade. In five states alone Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Colorado over 5 million jobs depend on trade. My economic recovery plan will create millions of jobs in America instead of driving them overseas.

I will adopt an "all of the above" energy policy which expands our use of oil, natural gas, clean coal and nuclear facilities. We will embark on a national mission to build an alternative energy base, creating millions of new jobs. We will create the most diversified energy economy in the world. And, I will return to the American economy the $700 billion dollars we send overseas every year to buy oil.

My opponent offers a very different economic future. He has continuously shifted his position on taxes. At the beginning of this campaign he promised to raise taxes on your savings and investments. He said he won't raise taxes for most people but he has voted 94 times in his short Senate career for tax increases and against tax cuts. He said he would only tax the rich, but he voted this year to raise taxes on those making just $42,000. Senator Obama has simply not given Americans good reason to trust him with your tax dollars.

My opponent is against lowering taxes on businesses which are the second highest in the world. He will impose mandated health insurance on businesses that would cost up to $12,000 per employee. He opposes free trade. He also wants to take away the fundamental right of workers to have a secret ballot when voting to be part of a union.
Now is not the time for these destructive policies that will cripple business growth, destroy jobs and hurt the middle class. Now is the time to take action to address this crisis and take action to put our economy back on a path of growth.

Even though Democratic leaders say they don't know what to do, I believe the deep problems afflicting our financial system won't be solved by one political party. There is only one candidate in this race who has a record of reaching across the aisle to work out the bipartisan solutions needed to move our country forward in times of crisis -- and I will bring that same spirit of bipartisan cooperation to the White House. It took members of both parties to get America into this mess, and it will take all of us, working together, to lead the way out.”

"The Economic Reality of Today's Uncertainty"
http://www.boxfreethinking.com/blog/2008/09/eco-reality.html

"This article was just about to be posted when the Lehman Brothers and AIG fiascos were announced. After rereading, even with the major troubles on Wall Street, I still believe that uncertainty is the main driver behind today's economic problems."

Now on to win in November...

The miraculous turnaround that appears to be happening to our Republican candidates ....with the large enthusisatic crowds, the multi-point jump in the polls, the tightening of the race in key states....may not only be due to the selection of Gov. Sarah Palin for VP.

Now don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Palin's and I think she is the right person for the job, and her selection as McCain's running mate has defintely given the campaign an entusiastic boost and her selection is without a doubt a major reason for the turn-a-round....but there may be other factors at work that have contributed to the upswing in the polls.....factors that have been grossly ignored or overlooked by the media in its efforts to offer a quick explanation of the
change in fortunes for the Republicans.

First, McCain's speech at the convention was one of the finest political speeches I have heard in a long, long, time. With his revealing some of his experiences as aPOW and how those experiences influenced his views of service to our country, he struck an emotional chord with a lot of us ....especially those of us who served in the Armed services during that same time period of the Viet Nam War. We were able to identify leadership traits in him and conclude that he would be the best suited to lead our nation in what very well may be perilous times.

His speech also laid the foundation of how he and Palin plan to tackle the tough issues and what some of the solutions are. He also presented a theme for his administration ....fight against bureauctratic waste and spending, reduce the size of government, fight corruption (Republican and Democratic),eliminate the "pork" and identify those responsibleand hold them accountable.... and most importantly, "serve the people".

Another possible reason for the turaround in the polls is because with the selection of a "pro-life" VP, the evangelicals of the Republican party have begun to express their preferences whereas before, the evangelicals were undecided because of the possibility (fueled by the speculation in the media)that McCain might choose a "pro-abortion" candidate for VP. Once that blockage was removed, evangelicals have gotten on board and are starting to enthusiastically work for and support the McCain/Palin ticket.

It is because of these reasons:
(1) the selection of Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican VP nominee
(2) the realization among voters that McCain is the leader we need as President and that he has a plan to "straighten out" what goes on in Washington
(3) enthusiastic Evangelical support

that I feel that this turnaround is no fluke, nor is it only a "convention bounce" that will not last. But rather I believe this to be the beginning of a momemtum swing in favor of the McCain/Palin ticket that will ultimately result in putting the Republican candidate in the White House.I also hope that this momentum might enable the Republican ticket to develop "coat-tails" that will help elect more Republicans to the House and to the Senate.

Only time will tell.....but....these are really good signs!!!!!!!!!!!
