Israel

Maybe this is why Barack Obama is so upset with Sen. Joe Lieberman and his support for John McCain. He may be sensing important Jewish support slipping away:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is attracting elite Jewish Democratic donors who backed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) and are concerned about Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) stance toward Israel, say McCain backers who are organizing the effort to court Democrats.

McCain has already had several fundraising events with Jewish Democrats in Washington and Florida, say his supporters.

He also has the backing of Democrat-turned-Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman (Conn.), who made history as the first Jewish vice presidential candidate and has recently raised questions about Obama’s foreign policy vision for the Middle East.

Stephen Muss, the Florida developer, is the biggest Democratic donor and fundraiser to pledge his support for McCain and the Republican National Committee, said a GOP official. Muss has given tens of thousands of dollars to help Democratic candidates in recent years, including $80,000 to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in 2000, according to the Center for Responsive Politics and CQ MoneyLine.  read more »

'Obama used to be very comfortable speaking up for and being associated with Palestinian rights and opposing the Israeli occupation.'

Here is video of a Carl Cameron report on Fox News in which he shows tape of an American-Palestinian leader who says Barack Obama has a history of being very friendly to the Palestinian cause and at least used to "oppose the Israeli occupation." That should go over well with those who believe it is imperative to have a President who is strongly pro-Israel.

Hat Tip: The Campaign Spot

Mark it down - Sen. John McCain warned Americans yesterday in a speech before AIPAC (Strong Pro-Israel Lobby)that Barack Obama's plans for an Iraq Withdrawal regardless of the conditions on the ground will result in a "catastrophe" in the Middle East.

Speaking in Israel, President George Bush today slammed the policy of appeasement that led to World War II and the extermination of 6 million Jews in the Holocaust, the same policy approach he said some today favor in dealing with terrorist states such as Iran. President Bush never mentioned the name "Barack Obama" in his remarks, but the Obama campaign has stepped right in the subtle trap by decrying Bush's attack on him. He obviously recognized himself in Bush's remarks! The liberal media is going crazy, as are the Democrats. Listen to what Bush actually said:

Sen. John McCain wasted no time taking advantage of the situation by asking out loud what it is Barack Obama wants to talk about with the brutal Iranian thug of a leader - Ahmadinejad:

This is a beautiful thing - the Dems are apoplectic, the liberal media and the Obama campaign are outraged and on the defensive, and everyone is thinking about why Barack Obama would want to talk to terrorists! McCain needs more days like this!

Sen. Barack Obama is facing a fresh controversy tonight. The Republican Jewish Coalition is calling on him to dismiss Gen. Tony McPeak from his campaign as a top military adviser for using what they say is language that indicates an anti-Israel bias:

The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) called on Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) Tuesday to remove military adviser and national campaign co-chairman Gen. Tony McPeak from his team, citing past statements McPeak has made about the Middle East that the RJC finds troubling.

Matt Brooks, executive director of the RJC, said in a statement that in keeping McPeak as a surrogate and campaign spokesman, “serious questions and doubts are once again being raised about Sen. Obama’s positions and judgment on Middle East issues.”

In its statement, the RJC cited a 2003 interview McPeak did with the Portland Oregonian in which “Gen. McPeak resorted to old stereotypes and unfortunate language by blaming the lack of progress with the Israeli-Palestinian peace process on the undue political influence of American Jewry. The problem, said McPeak, is ‘New York City. Miami. We have a large vote ... here in favor of Israel. And no politician wants to run against it.’ ”  read more »
