Sen. Fred Thompson is going to hammer the Mainstream Media tonight and their treatment of Gov. Sarah Palin. the following:Stephen Hayes at the Weekly Standard reports the following:
Fred Thompson will forcefully defend the selection of Sarah Palin tonight in a speech Republicans are characterizing as "red meat." He will argue that the feeding frenzy over Palin's is the result of "panic" from the Democrat-friendly mainstream media.
"What a breath of fresh air Governor Sarah Palin is. She is from a small town, with small town values, but that's not good enough for those folks who are attacking her and her family. Let's be clear, the selection of Governor Palin has the other side and their friends in the media in a state of panic. She is a courageous, successful, reformer, who is not afraid to take on the establishment."
Thompson will also criticize Barack Obama's answer on abortion from his recent appearance at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church. Warren had asked: "Now, let’s deal with abortion. 40 million abortions since Roe v. Wade. you know, as a pastor I have to deal with this all of the time. All of the pain and all of the conflicts. I know this is a very complex issue. 40 million abortions. At what point does a baby get human rights in your view?"
Obamas responded: "Well, I think that whether you are looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade."
Thompson will criticize Obama for dodging the issue: "We need a President, and Vice President, who will take the federal bureaucracy by the scruff of the neck and give it a good shaking. And we need a President who doesn't think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade."
The bulk of Thompson's speech will be a testimonial on behalf of John McCain, his character and his leadership. John McCain has "the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders."
Fred will speak tonight after President George W. Bush, sometime after 8:30 PM CDT.

Fred Thompson believes that the left's attack on Sarah Palin proves that they are panicking over her selection by John McCain.

Let's face it folks. The libs and their bloggers know that many Hillary voters, especially women, are currently unimpressed with Barack Obama. They wisely fear the ramifications of McCain picking a strong female leader like Governor Palin, and it's showing.

The GOP Convention will be "full steam ahead" tonight! Tonight's featured speakers will include President George W. Bush (via satellite), Sen. Fred Thompson, and former Democratic Vice-Presidential Candidate Joe Lieberman:
The Republican National Convention, cut back Monday because of Hurricane Gustav's arrival on the U.S. Gulf Coast, will resume a full schedule Tuesday, convention officials said.
President Bush, who was scheduled to speak Monday, will deliver his address via satellite at 9:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, officials said.
Tuesday's theme will be "Who is John McCain," officials said.
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who ran in the early GOP 2008 presidential
primaries, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democrat's 2000 vice presidential nominee, will deliver primetime speeches after President Bush.
GOP officials said the convention will still have an emphasis on helping those impacted by Gustav's passage through the Gulf states.
The decision to go forward with the convention schedule was made with the agreement of all Gulf Coast governors, convention officials said.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCain's choice for vice president, is scheduled to address the GOP convention Wednesday night.
Here is video of Sen. Fred Thompson on Fox News today, talking about the developing situation with Hurricane Gustav and John McCain's pick of Sarah Palin.

Stephen Hayes reports that Fred Thompson will replace California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in a prime-time speaking slot on Monday night, September 1, at the Republican National Convention. Arnold backed out to remain in California to handle a budget crisis, and Fred Thompson has been promoted to the prime-time slot. Go Fred!
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is skipping the Republican National Convention this week in Minnesota to manage an ongoing budget dispute in Sacramento. Republican officials say Fred Thompson will take his place in the prime-time lineup Monday night and onetime presidential candidate will have nearly three times longer to speak than he was originally given for his speech on Tuesday.
Schwarzenegger hinted that he might skip the convention at a press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "The work for the people of California, and to solve this budget problem, is the most important thing right now for me," he said.
Thompson, who is launching a new political action committee -- FredPAC -- in conjunction with the start of the convention, will now have twenty minutes to speak rather than seven. Other speakers Monday night include Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush.

Human Events is reporting that McCain sources are telling them that former Sen. Fred Thompson would "play a dominant role" in the arena of Supreme Court nominees in a coming McCain Presidency:
In a McCain administration, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson would play a dominant role in selecting Supreme Court nominees and other judicial appointments, sources close to the McCain campaign and to Thompson tell us.
And why is Fred suddenly everywhere? These sources say that the agreement between McCain and Thompson is behind Thompson’s resurgence in the national media in recent weeks. In a McCain campaign conference call with reporters yesterday on last week’s Supreme Court decision on terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Thompson -- without claiming such status -- played the role of a prominent McCain adviser.
That is outstanding news. Fred is a Federalist and would be the ideal person to help McCain choose nominees to the highest court in the land. Great move by McCain!
