energy policy

Here is a local news report on Sen. John McCain's visit to the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Facility near Detroit, Michigan yesterday, August 5, 2008. McCain also talked about the importance of building additional Nuclear Power Plants, which is opposed by Barack Obama.

Here is former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge on ABC's This Week today, August 3, 2008. Ridge talks here about Energy Policy, and says the McCain "Celebrity Ad" has a very serious point - that we need a President who is not glamorous, but serious. Serious enough to deal with the big issues that face America. He points out Obama's opposition to not only offshore drilling, but also expansion of nuclear power plants in America.

Here is the latest conference call from the McCain campaign:

Here is the RNC's first ad of the season. It highlights McCain's energy policies which could provide immediate relief to consumers and illustrates Obama's Dr. NO mentality

Here is today's McCain campaign conference call.

Here is a short segment of McCain's speech in Houston today where he discussed energy policy and compared Obama's positions on energy to those of Jimmy Carter.

Note: The audio is not very good so you'll have to turn it up. :)

So welcome to Obama's Amerika. "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,"

If Republicans don't turn this into a TV/Internet ad, we are in such disarray there is no hope. Obama's view of America turns out to be eerily like Carter's famous malaise speech: "it's a mess out there and it's all your fault, America."

Mr. Foreign Policy Obama thinks Iran, North Korea etc are "tiny problems" compared to the USSR (Yes, Mr. Obama, comparatively speaking, they don't have the fire power of the USSR--but which city are you willing to sacrifice to a dirty bomb, strapped onto the back of a mentally ill woman? NY? DC? Jerusalem? Disney World?). The USSR played by some civilized rules of engagement...terrorists don't.

And the argument that Bush is responsible for Iran's "strength" is a mightly arrogant argument considering Iran wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for Jimmy Carter who turned the place over the Ayatollah Khomeini by pulling the rug out from under the pro-Western Shah. So, yes, indeed. Let's give Jimmy Carter a second term and turn the US into a third world country. Workers of the World! Unite!

I am all for offshore drilling. Especially off the coast of Florida where Cuba and China have already begun the process.

McCain backs incentives to boost offshore oil
By Tim Gaynor

ROCHESTER, Mich., May 7 (Reuters) - Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain said on Wednesday he would support incentives to encourage states to develop potential oil fields but would not try to force them to exploit potential resources, especially in environmentally sensitive areas.

"I do believe that we should drill for it," he said when discussing oil exploration at a town hall meeting in Rochester, Michigan. "But I am a federalist and I believe in the rights of states to make those decisions."

He said he believed the U.S. government could do more to encourage states to develop their resources.  read more »

There has been some speculation that Mitt Romney is on the short list of choices for John McCain's VP but will fundamental differences on energy stunt the growth of such rumors?.

In an interview with Fox's Shepard Smith (See video below) Mitt Romney was asked about energy.

"...We've made some big mistakes in the past on gas prices by not developing our own natural resources-our own oil and gas as well as alternative energy sources it's time for us to get serious about full comprehensive plan to become energy independent-Doing that-beginning to make that investment- will have and impact on futures prices and bring down the cost of oil..."

Romney obviously believes that we must exploit our own natural resources to reduce gas prices and reduce our dependence on foreign sources of oil.

John McCain seems to think differently.

Video:ANWR is one of the pristine places in the world",'' McCain said. ''I wouldn't drill in the Grand Canyon either, and I wouldn't drill in the Everglades." - John McCain December 2007

Both agree that measures need to be implemented to reduce the burden on the American consumer.

In this paricular case, I have to agree with Romney. While China begins drilling off the coast of Florida Former Governor Jeb Bush and current Governor Charlie Crist have supported BLOCKING American companies from drilling off the coast of Florida.

Two viable and possibly abundant sources of oil that would be controlled and used by the USA and it's citizens have been designated "off limits".

Environmentalists must be partying like it's 1899...:)
