The economic speech that John McCain gave to the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce today addressed two major policy issues; McCain’s recommendations to deal with the nation’s mortgage and regulatory crisis and McCain’s economic plan for the U.S. economy and the American family.

Both parts of the speech were strong, but the first part of was for policy wonks while the second part was for the American family.

The first part was a fine speech on regulatory policy, but most voters; the ones who are only concerned with their personal, family economic situation, did not listen long enough to hear the most powerful part. The part of the speech that was most relevant to “main street” America got lost at the end. McCain’s proposals that were relevant to most undecided voters were not presented until at least the 10 minute mark of the speech. Don't be surprised if no one listened that long to the speech--the most effective part for target voters.

McCain’s plan for the American family and small business are strong and will be well received IF they are pulled out of today's speech and presented on their own.

This second part of today’s speech can help McCain take the lead on economic issues. McCain’s new economic stimulus package must be introduced to voters again. The GOP's focus on this issue and its determination to present the second half of today's speech to all voters will have a dramatic influence on the election.

It is critical that this important speech be actively covered by all McCain supporters who have access to the MSM.
