OBSERVATION: Just this evening in my Mass Media Law class, I learned of a case called, U.S. v Progressive (1979) which my professor called "a favorite tactic of the media."
They can get away with publishing this material as long as someone else does it first. The trick is to get someone else to do it.
This may go a little deeper than a geek in someone's basement.

Here are two video clips from today's appearance by John McCain at the Associated Press Annual Meeting. The first is a clip from McCain's speech, and the second is a clip of him answering a question regarding a "shield law" for reporters:

Here is video of remarks made by Sen. John McCain during a Q & A session following a speech to the Associated Press Annual Meeting. He is asked about Sen. Barack Obama's recent comments about small-town, working-class Americans. McCain would not call Obama "elitist," but said his comments were definitely "elitist," and do not describe the America McCain knows or believes in.

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain will deliver the following remarks as prepared for delivery to The Associated Press' annual meeting in Washington, D.C., today at 10:30 a.m. EDT:
Thank you. It is a pleasure to be here. I want to keep my remarks brief so that I can quickly get to your questions, comments or insults. Let me begin by offering a few thoughts about the press's role in political campaigns. Long ago in my career, I made a decision to be as accessible to the press as the press would prefer me to be, and, perhaps, even more than they would prefer. There have been days on the back of the bus when I couldn't help but notice the relief that spread among reporters when, after hours had passed, our conversation exhausted the day's questions of policy and politics and finally turned to ball scores, vacation plans, and the amusing eating and sleeping habits of my friend, Lindsey Graham. For those of you interested in what those habits might entail, Liz Sidoti, Libby Quaid and Dave Espo can fill you in. read more »

WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) - Republican Sen. John McCain refused Wednesday to rule out a pre-emptive war against another country, although he said one would be very unlikely.
The likely Republican presidential nominee was asked Wednesday at a town-hall style meeting if he would reject "the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive war," a reference to Bush's decision to invade Iraq without it having attacked the United States.
"I don't think you could make a blanket statement about pre-emptive war, because obviously, it depends on the threat that the United
States of America faces," McCain told his audience at Bridgewater Associates Inc., a global investment firm.
"If someone is about to launch a weapon that would devastate America, or have the capability to do so, obviously, you would have to act immediately in defense of this nation's national security interests." read more »
