Here's a good video of McCain Victory 08 Chair Carly Fiorina taking questons about Senator McCain's view on the economy and what we can do to right the ship.

The Gas Tax Holiday is a weak answer; McCain & Surrogates should

start to aggressively explain the basics.

1. We need to LOWER the speed limit to 55, just like we did in the 70's (NO ONE has yet proposed this)

2. Every time someone brings up the price of gas, Republicans need to point out the Democrat "energy" bill which Republicans defeated that would have added $1.40 to $1.60 to every gallon of gas (repeat this over and over and over again--believe me, the average American may not be conversant with the intricate economics of the future markets, but they understand $1.60 per gallon very well)

3. Drill in the US--and even if you take Anwar out of the picture, there's lots and lots of places to drill here in the US. Could someone please tell me how a drilling well, done with the environment in mind, "destroys" the land? Whatever is displaced can be replaced for goodness sake! We can fix strip mining; we can fix oil wells. And I and other Americans do not give a hoot about the views from the mansions in Santa Barbara.

4. Point out at every, single opportunity when the Democrats take out after "big oil" and their "big profits" that (a) oil companies get 4 cents--that is $.04--from every dollar worth of gas sold at the pump. And the oil companies explore, drill, deliver and show enough of a profit to reward investors with that mere 4 cents. It's not the oil companies. And it's not the salaries of oil executives.

5. REEXAMINE federal subsidies to bio-fuels. This blind adherence to the new religion of bio-energy has cost billions in tax-payer dollars and has done almost nothing to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has, however, done a lot to drive up the cost of food which affects not just Americans but the World's hungry. And that sugar fuel? The consequences there is cutting down the rain forests so people can eat. Could we please stop to consider all possible consequences before we become lemings of every environmental idea that comes down the pike? We've been investing in alternative energy sources for 30 years and only 1%--that ONE PERCENT--of all our energy comes from this "alternate" source.

6. Nuclear. We need to start building nuclear power plants. Now.

7. Why does no one talk about Kennedy's opposition to the dream wind field where Kennedy wants to go sailing?

8. Why does photovoltaic cells for homes cost more than the average person can invest? If we can build powerful computers and sell them for under $600, why can't someone build a photovoltaic cell for the home with simple hookup's and make them affordable? This is NOT exotic technology.

9. So called WINDFALL profit taxes? This needs to be answered with some very specific questions to the claimants and some very strong specifics about what happened when Carter did this. Gas will not just be expensive; it will be unavailable. Have the Democrats define "windfall". And when they start complaining about the CEO's salary, ask him/her if they are saying the all oil company employees ought to take a cut in pay since executive salaries have got to be a miniscule part of the whole. Someone who has the knowhow needs to find specifics that can be conveyed to the voter quickly--like $.04 on the dollar goes to Exxon and Mobile or whomever.
