John McCain harkens back to a different era in America. Cue "Mr. Sandman" and let's take a trip back to good ole 1955. A time when America was safe and sound because the White House was occupied by a humble, plain speaking citizen soldier from Kansas. That man was Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Ike is back on the scene with a vengance and I'm not talking about the hurricane steaming across the Atlantic.

Reform. Prosperity. Peace.

Sound familiar? It's not a coincidence that the McCain campaign is playing straight from Ike's playbook.

Remember the "I Like Ike" campaign for Dwight D. Eisenhower? Well, now it's time to tell the world, "I BACK MAC"!

I'm joining forces with my friends at ModernConservative.com to promote the "I Back Mac" slogan. This is a grass roots effort. We need everyone to loudly and proudly proclaim "I Back Mac" in the same way Americans united behind Ike in 1952.

Thomas Sowell writes today:

"What is happening in the republic of Georgia is all too reminiscent of what happened back in 1956, when Russian tanks rolled into Hungary-- and the West did nothing.  read more »

From mccainiac.blogspot.com:

After McCain recounted the story Saturday night (which many people had not heard before) of the "The Cross in the Dirt" during his time as a POW in North Vietnam, the liberal blogosphere has responded by questioning the veracity of the story:

I also heard this very morning Carl "Marx" Wolfson and Thom Hartmann on KPOJ-AM discuss whether the above story was true as they gleefully ticked off a half dozen other Swift-boat style accusations against McCain's service record. I couldn't believe the hypocrisy as these liberal radio hosts had just finished demonizing Jerome Kersi, who wrote "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry". So liberals are outraged (mostly justifiable outrage) about the accusations of lying and embellishing laid at Kerry's feet but they are more than happy to make the same type of smears against John McCain's service record.

Even more ironic? John McCain was one of the few Republicans who loudly and publicly denounced the Swift Boat attacks against Kerry. Kerry thought so much of McCain that he seriously considered him as his VP in 2004. How quickly the tables have turned. One can only hope that John Kerry will do the honorable thing and repay the favor by standing up for McCain against ridiculous attacks on his service in Vietnam.

Shame on KPOJ, Carl Wolfson and Thom Hartmann. Shame, shame, shame. John Kerry better be ready to speak out and be just as direct in denouncing these attacks as McCain was in doing the same for Kerry four years ago.

I was going through my childhood collection of stuff and I found a terrific comic book that I treasured as a little boy entitled "Mickey Mouse and Goofy explore Energy Conservation". The comic book was targeted at educating kids like me on energy. It was provided free of charge by Exxon in 1978 and distributed to classrooms across America.

Whaddya think about it... "I Back MAC" for President?

Playing off this headline from the New York Post

and this classic ad from the Eisenhower 1952 campaign:

Ike beat Adlai Stevenson in a landslide. Adlai was an Illinois Democrat cast as an "egghead", an aristocratic intellectual and got stuck with a perception that he couldn't connect with working class folks... sound familiar? Is Obama the second coming of Adlai?

Counterpunch and Huffington Post both published smear pieces this week on McCain's military service. Specifically, they accused him of being an enemy collaborator and getting soft treatment as a POW.

Spread the word about these baseless, unwarranted and sleazy attacks on John McCain. This must be confronted early and often. If this escalates into full blown TV ads (which Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain threatens to do), we could have a repeat of 2004. We need to ask John Kerry AND Obama to repudiate and condemn these attacks from the lunatic fringe.
